Well hello from two very tanned people!! We arrived in Koh Phangan on Thursday (we think!). We came over on the ferry, it was the full moon party on Sunday (a big party on the beach), so everywhere was full! Luckily we managed to reserve a room before we arrived. We got dropped off on the beach and had a long walk to our hotel - walking across sand with two backpacks is not fun! We arrive at the hotel sweaty and annoyed at the walk. They show us to our room - it is on a cliff face sorta dangling over the edge - not very safe! The lady said to watch out for the monkeys who like to come and steal your stuff - sold to us as a feature!! We go inside and the room is covered in ants! Yuk! We really could not stay - but everywhere is full - argh! We wearily go back into town... find a beautiful (if a little expensive) hotel right on the beach - sod the budget - we aint sleeping with no monkeys!! So we take the long walk back to the old hotel grab our stuff and try to make james bond style getaway.. however the lady sees us - doh! We make our apologies and leave.. leaving the monkeys to be amused by the ants! So from then on lots of relaxing in 5 star comfort! We met out first travelling friends, seemed nice enough. From down south. We got quite tipsy on buckets - these are literally buckets of alcohol with some sort of calpol in it - leathal! But only 4quid!
As mentioned earlier it was the full moon party on Sunday night. This is a famous party held every month - around 10000 close friends turn up to party on the beach - organised chaos. We headed down for more buckets! Its a really nice atmosphere, fire shows going on etc. We get pretty drunk, have a dance... was really good fun. Saw some very random people - one guy was drinking full glasses of jack daniels - straight!!! We get back to the hotel and buy this random staff member a drink.. after talking to him for about 10mins we realise he doesn't speak english. Silly us!
We are heading to Krabi and Phi Phi tomorrow so we are looking forward to that. Hope everyone is well,
Clare and James
