Hello from Perth where you work nine till five (or in my case seven till three) and every weekend is a holiday!
So it has been a couple of months since I last updated this blog, so it was about time I filled you in on some of my travelling antics. To start with, to what consumes most of my time....Kyle!!Only joking, I will fill you in on my time with the Western Australian Police Department.Firstly, I have not been arrested on any firearm incidents or been let go or fired. In fact I have been promoted and been given more responsibility around the office.I am now the admin administrator (along with another English girl Jaime) for my department.I am very busy and the days go past extremely quickly.I have to deal with a lot more officers but they are all a good laugh and most of them are helpful lol.The past few weeks I have even done some overtime to make up for the Easter break and to get more spending money for Bali...but more about that later. My last day at the office will be the 24th June which is not too far away now.I even got complimented by the head officer in charge as he said and I quote "Why are all the good ones leaving???And you're good looking too!"No joke whatsoever, he did actually say that hehe! And on that note let's move on to where I left off previously.
Back at the beginning of March, I got to join the Nicol family on a trip down south to Margaret River which was brilliant. We stayed in a lovely house in a village where Elvis must once have visited (and if none of you get the reference, I will spell it out slowly...G-R-A-C-E-T-O-W-N)!!By day we visited wineries and beaches and by night we had game nights and watched the sun set over the ocean (pictures are to come later). It was a very relaxing long weekend. On the way back to Perth, we stopped for an ice cream at a place called Busselton which is home to the longest wooden pier in the world (random fact for you there).
The following weekend, Kyle and I went to see a comedy show called 'An Englishman, and Irishman and a Scotsman' for the run up to St Paddy's day!It was hilarious...I even had to pick Kyle of the floor he was laughing so hard. You know it's a good comedy show when after you leave you can't remember most of the jokes but you are still laughing anyway! The following Thursday was of course St Paddy's day...in which you must celebrate the Irish!Me and some of the girls from the hostel (Keily, Stacy, Bernadette, joined by Kyle and Jono) all headed for a night on the town filled with more Irish people than you would find in the whole of Ireland and danced the night away.It was a brilliant night but with only 3 hours sleep before I had to get up for work...it was going to be a long day!We also had to celebrate Keily's birthday in style. On her actually birthday, we all went for a gorgeous meal in the suburb up from ours called Mt Lawley. On the weekend following her birthday we went to a nightclub in Leederville which is nicknamed 'The Seedy Leedy' and I will leave those words to your imagination (and some of the pictures to follow).
When I am not working, most of my spare time and weekends have been spent with Kyle, cooking up a storm, watching movies, going out for the occasional dinner and movie and watching my favourite band on a Saturday night at a club called The Shed, going on shopping trips with the girlies from the hostel and seeing the odd AFL and Rugby match. Kyle and I even got to catch up with our tour guide from New Zealand Hoover who was in Perth before she flew to Asia.It was good catching up and she told us everything about being in Christchurch for the earthquake.Every second Sunday I have gone to watch Kyle play football at his club's home ground. It is my chance of course to sit out in the sun and tan lol...and watch him run for 90 minutes of course.
So we have just past the Easter break in which I got 5 days off work to chill in the sun, and go on a little road trip up North with Kyle to Yanchep lagoon and national park and to a little seaside village called Lancelin. It was such a contrast between going south to Margaret River.Going down South was green and trees and...well people, suburbs, life.Going north it was red dirt; kind of a desert feel and well...empty.It was really good to see as it made you feel like you were in the outback when in fact we were only 30 minutes from Kyle's suburb. It was amazing to see a change so quickly. We also had ANZAC day.Paul, a family friend of the Nicol's and the guy's house we stayed in when we first arrived in Perth, threw a BBQ.It was a great night with lots of drinks. Let's just say, no one stayed sober to drive me home, so I had to spend the night at Kyle's.The long weekend didn't feel long at all and I was back at work before I knew it.
So most of you will know that my flights to come home to bonnie Scotland have been booked and I will be arriving in Aberdeen on the 5th July. Before I come home however, I have one more country to see...Bali.Kyle and I fly to Bali on the 26th June till the 02nd July.We are joining one of Kyle's uni friends and a bunch of other people for a week in Bali and we are staying in a luxury 5 star villa in a hotel complex next to the beach. It looks like heaven compared to my hostel lol!I have met the girls (and 1 boy) that we are to go with...we had a meal with them a few weekends ago and have been to the cinema with them...just get to know them a little bit before we go on holiday together.I have been looking into things to do in Bali and on the top of my list in an elephant trek and to go up the volcano (let's hope another natural disaster doesn't happen when I'm on top of that volcano).
So I am running out of things to tell you about. It doesn't sound like I have done very much since I last updated you but I have been busy enjoying the Aussie lifestyle.I am however starting to think about coming home and catching up with everyone. The next eight weeks are going to fly by and it will be six weeks short of a year since I would have left...oh I have lasted well!
I will see everybody very soon (5th July onwards...Jamie, remember you promised me a BBQ lol).
Miss you loads
Claire
