Goodbye Sydney....for now!
Well our time in Sydney is up already.Ok, so this place isn't as bad as we first thought...but we still couldn't live here.We are looking forward to coming back over the New Year with Kyle and Nelette to do some of the tourist things with them...like climb the Harbour Bridge!
So, we haven't been very productive here in Sydney. However, on Saturday we went to the amazing Taronga Zoo.It is located on the hills behind the opera house and it takes a ferry ride to get to it.The views from the zoo looks over the water back onto the city...very pretty. So, me and Gillian acted like big kids at the zoo going ooo, ahhh over all the animals. We got up close to a python, went to the gorilla talk where we saw a massive silver back gorilla, got to see giraffes and the baby elephant that was born a couple of weeks ago...so cute!We went past the cats of Africa in which every single one of them were zonked out in a deep sleep....that's just lazy (says the girl who sleeps in till midday haha). The meerkats were also a must....just so we could say "simples"!We went to the Australian bushwalk where Claire got to see her first kangaroos and even got to pet one hehe!We even went and had an animal encounter with a 4 year old male koala called Darwin.Just the 2 of us got to go into the pen with Darwin and got our pictures taken with him....it was feeding time so he wasn't too impressed with us coming in disturbing his lunch. He even gave Gillian a knock on the head and took a swipe at Claire. The pictures turned out really well (they will be uploaded soon). After this, we headed back to the giraffes where it was there feeding time.We got to feed them carrots and Gillian got her photo taken with them....I tell you, we're big kids!!Before heading home, we caught the start of the seal show and we couldn't leave without laughing at the penguins. So that was our awesome day at the zoo...we caught the ferry back to Circular Quay and walked around watching some street theatre in which the woman at one point starting insulting Germans to then ask for a volunteer that just so happened to be German....classic!!!It was extremely funny. We had a lovely dinner and saw the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House all lit up in the evening. This has probably been the most productive day we had in Sydney.
Other days we have strolled down to Bondi beach...it is lovely down there!Pure golden sand, blue water, big waves and lots of surfers....whoops did I say that hehe! The walk back up to our hostel is brutal though! It is a very steep hill, definitely a work out for the legs.We have also managed to get some sun on our white Scottish bodies, our tan lines are getting worse by the day, it is quite funny...it's going to take a lot of work at the beach to start evening it up!It's a tough life!
Just down the road from us is a big shopping mall.We spent ages going through 5 floors of shops to find absolutely nothing. We then headed down one of the side streets to find a little market and discount stores. We both got a jacket for $10....really we did! What a waste of a morning, we could have spent the whole day in that one shop and not the whole 5 floors in the mall. One good thing is we found a cinema in that shopping complex so we went and saw The Sorcerer's Apprentice...it's a good movie and we recommend it!Go team magical stuff!!
So it is back to the airport tomorrow morning to catch our flight to Melbourne. We are really looking forward to it.Gillian is all excited to have found her favourite band playing there on Saturday...so our first concert of Australia is this weekend! We have spent most of our nights applying for jobs and Gillian has one lined up for the day after we get in....good luck her!So, the next few days are going to consist of us getting to know yet a new place (oh how we love the travelling lifestyle)! We are however looking forward to getting settled for awhile in our new flat!
So I think that is us for now!We won't have the same access to the internet down in Melbourne so watch this space for pictures and updates!
Miss everyone loads!
Claire and Gillian
