We arrived in Buenos Aires (BA) after the best bus journey of my entire life! We were in the Royal Suite, travelling in premier style! Fully reclinable seats, (literally flat into a bed), and a two course meal, breakfast, wine and champagne! Oh and we played a little bingo to win wine at the start of the journey!! Ohh and we had personal TV sets in the chairs in front and a selection of about 25 movies and headphones, blankets and a pillow! If i was in heaven and had to catch a bus, this would be the one!! Haha!
So yeah we arrived in BA at about 8am and caught the subway (love this city already) across town to our hostel. Millhouse. The party hostel.
BA is MASSIVE! People had told us this in advance but we didnt really believe it until we arrived! They are 4/5 main neighbourhoods all very very different from each other.
La Boca is one. And home to the football team Boca Juniors! And WOW! Ive never seen an area so dedicated to a football team! Clearly wouldnt want to wear a Riverplate shirt round here (rival team)! There were team colours and shops EVERYWHERE!
All the houses in La Boca are colourful, apparentely because back in the day they were really poor and couldnt afford paint so they would buy different colours on different weeks etc to paint their houses.. But they look so cool! They do have these wierd, freaky looking model people hanging out of windows in the main street and i can imagine if lit up at night it would be terrifying! Ha! Tom then went on a stadium tour but i didnt.. Me and some others went for coffee and Choripans!! Much nicer!! Choripans by the way are chriozo sausage sandwiches.. Tastyyyy!
San Telmo is another neighbourhood and the place to be on a sunday! The antiques market there is possibly the best market i have ever been to in my entire life! It was amazing! Soo much stuff and not all s*** either! They also had live music playing and and dancing etc! Was unbelievable! And i was extremely impressed with myself for not buying anything! Ha! Self control!!
Palmero is another neighbourhood, and the weathly neighbourhood of BA.. Think Notting Hill and thats like Palmero.. The buildings across BA anyway are incredible but in Palmero there even better!! The shops and shopping malls are also in Palmero.. I didnt do so well when we visited those in not buying anything! Haha! Althou i did manage to not spend anything in Zara and only brought a snood! And i needed that! (honest!) haha! I do miss shopping hugely now thou, having spent about a week in BA! And i miss my clothes..! Ahaha! Its the first city outside Europe that ive actually seen any kind of fashion sense!
But anyway we also went for the BEST steak in the WORLD in Palmero.. La Carberra...We went with a load of people we had met in our hostel and OMG! It was amazing.. 400gram steak, rare, with salad and chips, and of course red wine! AMAZEBALLS!
So we had to do it because this is the place to do it.. We had a Tango Lesson! We werent very good.. Well we were but they only taught us 6 steps and once we had watched the show afterwards we all quickly realised that we hadnt learnt anything at all! Haha! We all went to a club afterwards thou and naturally tried to tango in the club! We are pro's even if we only know the basics!! Ha!
We also went to Recoleta which is where the famous cemetery is of Eva Peron, the most celebrated woman in Argentinan history.. Not going to lie dont really get why, apart from she was married to a bloke who was fairly powerful in Argie land.. The cemetery itself though was the weirdest and coolest cemetery i have ever been to! Talk about over the top! The people are dead for christ sake! They had actual houses for the coffins to lie in.. No burial services round here!! And you could actually see into the tomb houses, and see the coffins!! Mega freaky! Some house things were really nicely done and made out of marble and kept nice etc.. Others werent.. They were all grand looking but some had cobwebs all inside and there was one which the door to it was actually OPEN! We did not go in but all agreed that it would be an epic place to set a halloween horror movie..!
So yeah we spent a total of ten days in BA, approximately 3 of those were spent entirely in the hostel recovering from the worst hangovers we've had.. But its all been incredible! We met the best people here, (people i would actually be friends with at home).
If i love Rio as much as i loved BA i will not be returning to the UK! Ha!
Anyway off to the next place!
Speak soon! Muchos love.
