It's been another relatively uneventful day here in Sopacachi.
I was late rising, and spent a good part of the morning researching what I hope to cover for the magazine later this month. Following that me and Leigh (an Intern from New York) went and grabbed some saltenas for lunch.
We then decided to head to the independence day parades in the city centre. We decided to walk, which was interesting as it meant I got to see a different side to the city. We did walk through some dodgy areas (including past the notorious San Pedro prison) but eventually made it, albeit slightly breathless, to the city centre.
There were no parades.
It seemed as if La Paz was all paraded out, and clearly half the city had left as the city was eerily quiet.
So instead, after a tucumana (a form of empanada) I went and visited Calle Jaen - La Paz's oldest street, before taking the teleferico back to Sopocachi.
It's been nice to have a couple chill days just to completely relax and not really have to be anywhere or do anything. Despite that I'm still feeling a bit tired - although that's probably just from all the walking.
Everything should get underway tomorrow, so back to action! Caroline, the editor is in Europe, but Adriana, the person who organises interviews + a higher up editor is here to discuss what we'll do for the magazine tomorrow. And then there's a guy called Rodrigo. Still haven't quite worked out what he does...
Vamos!
Edit:
Turned out there were independence day celebrations today. A massive concert being held at the main teleferico station. It was epic.
Sure it was freezing cold, a lot of standing and a lot of being pushed in the crowds but still, it was worth it. We got to see a major Bolivian rock band called Octavia, before a rather bizarre shadow puppet performance of Bolivian independence (+ a flying Cholita - indigenous women - hanging, alive, from a crane) and then the awesome Argentine reggae rock band Los Pericos. All that, capped off with some a nice bit of cow heart.
Vamos!
