I have officially finished school and moved out of my house in Lincoln. We left the South Island on November 5 and made our journey to the North Island, where I will be until Dad and Char come on November 24. Our travel agent on campus suggested that we relocate a camper from Christchurch to Auckland, so we took his advice. Relocating a camper is potentially one of the best things ever intvented... it just means driving a camper from Christchurch to Auckland for the extremely cheap price of $5/day, in addition to the company paying for the ferry fee of a wopping fee of $250. Plus, diesel is much, much cheaper than stadard gas in New Zealand. We made the 15 hour journey using only 2 tanks of gas!
We began our roadtrip North from Christchurch, crossing the ferry, and spending a night in Wellington. We were amazed out how abnormal it felt to be in a city... It made us realize that spending 4 months in the South Island is truly a very isolating experience. I am still beyond grateful for stuyding in the South Island and very happy that my experience was focused on hiking and camping rather than cities, but I didn't realize how long it has been since I have been in a true city until we reached Wellington. Especially because Christchurch is still so effected by the earthquakes it doesn't really constitute a city right now.
We then continued North and camped 4 nights in various spots on our way to Auckland. Our camper felt five star compared to sleeping in the back of our car, which we sold for more than we bought it for, by the way. The camper had a full kitchen, sitting space, dining space, and fold out king size bed. We were so sad to part with our $5/night luxury wheels.
We are now in Auckalnd, which is also a very cool city. Very metropolitan, modern, and young. We have reservations to stay in a hostel tonight and tomorrow night, but after that we are taking it day by day. It will be good practice for our adventrues through SE Asia. I am getting really exciting for Dad and Charile to come. A litte comfort from home will be the perfect re-energizer before 3 weeks in SE Asia. I have a great plan for them that well-rounds my favorite experiences in the South Island. Now off to figuring out the next 15 days...
