This past weekend was amazing in more ways than one. There was an organized road trip to Dunedin, which is 5 hours south of Lincoln University. You'd be surprised how far 5 hours takes you on such a small island. We were almost near the most southern point of New Zealand. Again, blows my mind to think about where I am geographically; I don't think I'll ever get over it.
We stayed in a hostile in the very center of the city so we were able to walk to just about everything we did. It was my first experience in a hostile and I had low expectations, but I was very impressed. Our group filled 6 rooms with 6-8 people per room. It was tight quarters but that added to the fun because we all left our doors open to create one giant communal setting.
We arrived late the first night so just went to "The Octagon", which is there bar and restaurant pedestrain street. The next day, we went on a tour through the Cadbury Chocolate Factory, the farmers market at the Dunedin Train Station (the 2nd most photographed building in the southern hemisphere, after the Sydney Opera House), went on the Speight's Brewery Tour, then ended (or began, depending on how you look at it) the night with a pub crawl. On sunday, we checked out of the hostile at 10am and went on what was supposed to be a 45 minute hike to the beach but turned into a 3 hour excursion up and down huge rolling hills on the penisula. I loved every second. Afterwards, we went to the steepest street in the world, Baldwin Street. Climbing that after our hike was certainly interesting. It
