The day dawned badly! At 4am I awoke feeling really nauseous. So nauseous that I had to get up and try and throw up. Eventually I made myself because I felt so ill but this only helped for a short while and I had to do it again. I then slept very fitfully until dawn and at that point I knew I was really sick as the diarrhoea had started also! What a day to get it, travelling all the way to the Yangtze! I took some stomach tablets that one of the girls on the trip had as well as some Imodium and that helped enough to get me through. Firstly we went to the airport and caught the plane to Wuhan, after which we commenced our bus journey to Yichang near to where we had to board the cruise boat. I will skip the details but suffice to say it was horrendously long and the bus was not the greatest. The seat room was minimal and the suspension was poor. It tok 7 hours including a stop for dinner and a short trip to a supermarket for beer and wine (to take on the boat so as not to spend so much on board). Dad bought 6 cans but I didn't get anything so you can see how sick I was! After we left the dinner place (I stayed in the bus after having used a squat toilet at the restaurant!) we drove for what seemed an interminable tme to the dock where we arrived around 9:15pm. It was a real scramble up and down ramps and metal walkways and in through one ferry and out the other side onto our ship but eventually we got there and found our room (from where I am writing this). It is very small, with two single beds and a small ensuite. There is a chair and a cupboard and only room for one case. I had to remove all my stuff and put it in a cupboard and hide the case in a gap between the desk and a wall. There is a nice little balcony with two chairs and dad has spent a lot of time out there with his beers, chatting to the neighbours (Dave and Jaquie). The big drawback is that there is no fridge and no internet access in the room! We went straight to bed and I slept very soundly, only getting up once in the night.
