We had decided that we would not eat in the hotel for breakfast as we had the morning free so I managed to do one more blog and photos before we met up with Terry and Jacquie and caught a cab (Y10) to the south gate and walked through the old town to the same place again for breakfast (as you can probably tell we are really impressed by it)! I had a beautiful breakfast of omelette with fresh cooked vegetables and ham and it was so big it nearly covered the plate (Y25 or about$3.75)! Dad had toast and each slice must have been nearly a quarter of a loaf. We had freshly squeezed OJ each (delicious) and dad had a capuccino which he said was very good and I had two cups of Yunnan coffee which we had been told is the best coffee in China, and I would agree with that! After brekkie we visited a few shops and in particular leather goods places as Terry and Jacquie were still looking for a couple of things and and so were dad and I. I finally managed to find Lauren a handbag! I hope you like it Lauren, it is charcoal grey and was the first time that I have found bags in that colour for the whole trip! It is made of Yak leather and was a good buy at Y350 (about $55) reduced down from Y500. That completes my present buying, now I just have to get the dam things home on the plane!!!
After that we returned to the hotel and checked out before boarding our bus for the trip back to the old town for our lunch which none of our little party really had room for (but we tried)! Then it was time to say goodbye to our local guide, Martin, and head off on the long drive back to Kunming.
It was a fairly uneventful (but long) trip back except for an overurned truck on the freeway going the other way, and the locals selling live pheasants from the side of the freeway! The traffic coming into Kunming was horrendous and took forever. We finally arrived at a restaurant for dinner at around 6:30pm after driving for over five hours and the dinner turned out to be hotpots! There was a great selection of mushrooms (five types) which the area is known for, meats and vegetables of all kinds which we selected and put into our individual hotpots fired from beneath by a little burner. This was great fun and we had a really great meal, all except for poor dad who really expects that his food should be cooked for him and didn't enjoy it at all!
After dinner we went to the hotel and found our rooms and after uploading some photos and another blog (I'm up to date again!), I went down and had a couple of drinks with a couple of other members of the group before going up to bed.
