Ladies and Gentlemen...the Icehouse is now officially...Open!!!!!
After a long awaited few months the day finally arrived for the Icehouse to open its doors to the public and we went along as VIP's to the grand opening!
What a fantastic event! As we entered the building there was a huge ice sculpture to greet us! We then headed through to the rink where hundreds of school kids were putting on skates and being entertained by stilt wearing fairies!
We found a great spot right next to the rink and watched Chris do his Ice Cat driving while we were readily supplied with petite pastries, fancy coffee's fruit juices and mini muffins...very yummy!
The speeches started at 12noon with Darren the GM for the rink speaking first and then John Brumby the Premier for Victoria finishing off and cutting the red ribbon! Very nice speeches and we felt very proud of Chris after all his hard work and for being part of such an amazing project!
The next event was the Ice Show where four different Ice Sports were showcased on the ice. Curling, speed skating, figure skating and finally ice hockey! The show finished with some huge explosions coming out of the rigging in the ceiling and this startled the life out of Mum which I found rather amusing :)
Straight after this, hundreds of eagerly awaiting school kids were released onto the ice for their first skate and it was great just watching them all cling onto the sides all the way round...the Aussie's don't have much skating experience in Victoria!!
A fantastic day! Hope you all enjoy looking at the pic's, I have plenty of speech footage and videos to show you all when we get home!
Tomorrow we are heading to Geelong for the day to show mum the sights!
