That's right! We saw the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles! But I'll get to that in a moment. First, I have to talk about our visit to:
THE WORLD'S TALLEST BUILDING!
Ok, ok, it turns out that The Petronas Towers isn't actually THE WORLD'S TALLEST BUILDING. Or tower for that matter. But it IS:
THE WORLD'S TALLEST TWIN TOWERS!
Wow! That's something eh? And it is also in the top 20 tallest buildings in the world, along with the Kuala Lumpur Tower which we also visited. 0n the same day. Yup, we saw lots of things from very high up that morning. It's a very nice city, shame about the smog, but then you get that everywhere don't you? Not in Bracknell you say? Oh.
Anyway, later on that day we went for a walk around Chinatown. I was looking for a Mogwai but the best I could find was a hedgehog and a couple of siamese cats. We then had a Chinese before heading back to our hostel...and ordering a Domino's pizza. We couldn't help it. It's so cheap out here it would be wrong not to.
In order to make up for this lapse into western culture, we decided that we best try and submerge ourselves into a bit of Malay life. However, it didn't seem that interesting so we went to THE WORLD'S LARGEST COVERED BIRD PARK instead! All sorts of things happened here; we saw a couple of very rare Greater Birds of Paradise; a peacock tried to steal my ice cream; a second peacock actually DID steal my banana and pecked my hand; and we saw a bird show in which Chico the Parrot rode a bicycle ("Chico is a very professional bird," the trainer informed us) and Gerry the Cockatoo danced to Spinning Around ("Gerry likes Kylie Minogue").
We thought nothing could top the excitement of Gerry and Chico's performance at the Bird Park - as we moved on to explore Kuala Lumpur's Lake Gardens (basically just lots of trees and a lake - we still felt we had to make up for the pizza. And the McDonalds. Oops...), you will never guess who we encountered next! No, not Las Ketchup of The Ketchup Song fame, but only The Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles! Hooray!

Heroes in a half-shell - Turtle Power
They're the world's most fearsome fighting teens, (we're really hip)
They're heroes in a half-shell, and they're green, (hey! get a grip!)
When the evil Shredder attacks,
These turtles boys don't cut him no slack.
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles,
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
Splinter taught them to be fighting teens, (he's a radical rat)
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machine's, (that's a fact chap).
Raphael is cool but crude, (gimme' a break!)
Michaelangelo is a party dude (Hurray!!).
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles,
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
Heroes in a half shell,
Turtle power!
For more information, please see our photos. Donatello was really pleased so after that, we decided that we had done enough in Kuala Lumpur and decided it was about time we headed on down to Singapore - city, state AND country fact fans!
Once again, we decided to use that miracle of travel that is the overnight train, so after a quick Nando's (we couldn't help it, the Domino's and McDonalds had given us a taste for Western cuisine. Not to mention the Pizza Hut and KFC...) we headed for the train station. Luckily, this time Luke got a bunk, albeit one that he was several inches too long for so we managed to get some sleep on the 10 hour journey. Well I did anyway, aside from the overhanging half his bunk, Luke also had to contend with the old man snoring under him and his curtain cover falling off the rail. Oh well, better luck next time Raddy!
Upon our arrival in Singapore, we headed for Little India to find our hostel. Not as cosy as the one in Kuala Lumpur and lacking the amazing view, it almost made up for it by having a very yummy curry house next door, as well as a 7/11 (it's like their Tesco in Asia, but cheaper! And a bit smellier). Luke was very tired so I let him have a nap up in the dorm room (*shudder*) before I woke him up and insisted that we go to the Night Safari. We were lucky enough to get a discount package from the hostel which included the cost of a tram trip round the park - well we thought we were lucky at the time. We didn't count on having The World's Biggest Annoying Tour Guide on board as well. But it wasn't all bad. We were able to get off after 15 minutes and went to see a fire eating show! They even got a lady to go up and blow some darts at some balloons (it was more exciting then it sounds, honest!), and she missed and shot the man in the leg! It was very hot and very entertaining, so by the time it finished we were in the mood for another show - onto The Creatures of the Night Performance we declared! And what a performance it was...
First of all, some bear/rodent creatures crawled along a rope before pooing and weeing and puking all over the people sitting underneath them! Then, the host asked for a volunteer and picked out a rather tomboy-ish looking little girl called Antonia. Uh oh...he does realise it's a little girl doesn't he...?
"What a brave young man Antonio is everybody!"
...nope, apparently not. Oh dear, this continued for a good five minutes or so, much to our horror/delight, and finally ended when it was time to watch the otters do some recycling. Yes, that's right, otters can recycle in Singapore! And they had three different bins just like we have in Bracknell! It was amazing to watch. No wonder Singapore is so clean if they've even got the animals at it. Maybe we could train the pigeons to do it England? Or the squirrels. Ahhh, squirrels. On a side note, we've not seen any of them since we've been out here. Good. Anyway, after that it was hometime and we decided that since the bus driver earlier hadn't taken our bus tickets, we weren't going to throw good money after bad by buying another ticket. Thus, that is how we bunked the bus in Singapore. Pah, so much for their rules and regulations. We were well scared that we would get caught the whole journey though. It's a $500 fine for things like that out here! All worth it to save the $4 on the ticket though.
This morning we once again decided that a day out was in order, so we hopped aboard the MRT (their version of a tube, but cleaner and with air con) and made for the Singapore Science Museum. Here we learned that Luke is more flexible than me, I have better blood pressure than Luke, and we both fit up a giant nose. This time included in the price of our ticket we got a trip to the magial world of snow - that's right, SN*W WORLD! We went in an igloo, went sledging down a huge slide of snow, and threw snowballs at each others heads. Of course, it was artificial snow so the snow balls were more like ice - Luke nearly killed me with one! It was all great fun. Maybe flip-flops and shorts weren't the best attire though...
And thus, we once again arrive at our present time and location, an internet cafe in Little India at 10.55pm. Tomorrow, we're going to the magical island of Sentosa where more adventures await us! We'll tell you all about them when we return...IF we return that is...
Until that time,
Much love from Chris and Luke x x
