Hello everyone Thank you so much for all your messages - it's very exciting to get them all. We arrived here on Saturday after our mammoth 39hour journey! Now we are here it feels a long way from home! It is incredibly hot but the island is very green and beautiful. The people are very friendly and so laid back they are horizontal! When it comes to music, if its not Bob Marley or a dodgy remix they aren't interested! Our guest house is really sweet - the old lady, Winnie, that runs it is a bit batty but nice. She likes to know everything we get up to and asks 'how our day at school was?' On Sunday she tries to coerce everyone into going to church with her and apparently we will get taken by the devil if we don't! We opted for a deserted island instead this week! Literally everything on the main island closes on Sunday and in some places Saturday evening, in preparation for Sunday! The island we went to, Pangaimoto, is about a 10minute boat ride away. All that is there is a bar and a beautiful sandy beach. Sunday is apparently the busy day but there were only about 40-50people there. Chris says all that was missing from his perfect Sunday was a game of footy to watch in the afternoon! We started at the hospital today and were allocated to the obs and gynae department. We were pretty shocked when we arrived as it is a lot more run down than we expected. The paint is peeling off the walls, there is a lot of dirt and insects everywhere. The obstetrics ward has been so busy in the last few weeks that they have started laying mattresses on the floor. The staff are all really friendly and the doctors really good, its just that they don't have the resources that we do. Tongans like to do as little work as possible - the doctor finished the clinic in an hour this afternoon and they said we could go after an hour and a half this morning. Thats fine by us though!
