Chris and Laura do Tonga
Hello again,
It's been a while since we last wrote. We enjoyed the rest of our week on the medical ward but haven't done a lot of work since then!
Pretty much everything shut down over Easter weekend and unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse as well. It rained and rained like we have never seen - so much for tropical paradise and our plans to spend the weekend at the beach!
We still managed to watch some rugby on Saturday though and saw Fiji vs Samoa womens and a Tongan club vs a Samoan club mens in the Tri-nations cup. It was so wet so the game was a bit messy but the crowd excellent!
On Monday we flew out to Vava'u one of the outer islands after a 3hr wait at the domestic airport (otherwise known as a hut!). The plane we were meant to be on had left an hour earlier than planned so we missed it! - typical Tonga! The plane was crazy like one out of Indiana Jones and only seated 15 people! They even weighed us with our hand luggage to decide where to seat us!
We have spent the last three days doing our PADI diving course which has been amazing -so much fun and we saw so many gorgeous fish, lobster and I found Nemo! which was very exciting! Its different here to the main island - they get a few more tourists and the locals aren't quite as friendly as on the main island but it's nice all the same.
The other night we went for a meal at a restaurant in the princesses old house overlooking the harbour. It was lovely and recommended by some locals. For 10quid we had a 5 course seafood curry which was amazing - so different. The main dishes were laksa with tiger prawns, tuna and coconut and snapper tandori. It was one of the BEST meals we have ever had and in England you would just pay masses for it.
Tomorrow we are going back to the main island for our final week. The time is going so quickly!
Love Laura and Chrisxx
PS - we were very impressed with the messgaes from the Grandparents - we appreciate the efforts with the technology! xxx
