We decided to head to Whistler today. We said goodbye to ELizabteh, Bob and Sandy and thanked them very much for been such good tour giides and even better hosts! :) We headed on board the BC ferry at Departure Bay in Nanimo and headed back to Horshoe Bay. From there we jumped onto a Greyhound and made our way to Whistler. The journey took about 6 and 1/2 hours in total so we were very glad when we actually arrived there! At first sight whistler village was fantastic! It was a bit of a mission to find our hostel (as it was about 7km outside the village, and a massive treck up a hill with backpacks on) but EVENTUALLY we got there and realised we were staying at, what was, the athletes village when the Olympics were on. Very excited about heading up the mountains tomorro.

We headed into Whistler village to explore. This was a very interesting place. The olympic rings were still there and we saw a shrine to Nodar Kumaritashvili who was the luge athlete that tragically died before the olympics started. We decided to do the 'Peak to Peak' tour which lets you get to the top of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountain and joins both mountains with a world record breaking gondola ride. At the middle point of the ride we were 4.5 kilometers above the ground which was pretty scary. Jerry was looking out to see how high up we were cause we were both to scared to look down. We went for a hike round the top of the mountain which was pretty cool not only because there was snow on the ground but due but to the amazing views of the countryside around us. We then watched some fantastic skier's and snowboarders at the peak of Blackcomb mountain only wishing we were as good because they were doing front summersaults with 720 degree twists landing backwards and continuing to ski away. We had to get a chair lift back to the bottom of the mountain towards the village. We looked down and saw a small baby black bear!!!wow, the first bear we have seen in Canada. It was too quick and we didnt get any pics! :( We headed into the Whistler museum where we lifted the olympic torch and found out all the history of whistler and the story of the olypics! Very interesting as Whistler have been trying to get the Winter olympics since 1966!!!!
At night we chilled at the hostlel and met lots of people from Canade, Oz, Germany, Norway and England. There was lots of interesting chat and a lot of laughs. We are heading to head into the rockies in the next couple of days towards Banff, Jasper and Calgary.
