Having said goodbye to insanely beautiful Castlepoint, we headed towards Wellington, where we had our ferry to Picton. We timed it so we could spend the whole day there and at least get a little feel of the city's atmosphere. Although sunny, the wind was very strong and made my hair resemble a bird's nest. Once we found a parking space, which didn't prove to be that easy, we went exploring. Apart from finding somewhere nice to eat and having a coffee (people say Wellington is famous for its coffee), our other goal was to find Chris a cheap skateboard. The city had a really optimistic feel and was very lively - people excercising and running near the scenic marina and spacious park; skaters and strollers filling the streets and office workers having lunch in the surrounding bars. We popped into a few skate shops getting ourselves greedy and then, found a bar where we got really good (and cheap!) stone baked pizzas. Afterwards, there were few jobs we had to do, like finding a DOC site and printing our great walks bookings. As we were close to the marina, we had a good coffee overlooking the harbour and then Chris made up his mind and went on a mission to... get himself a skateboard he saw in one of the shops! Yay! I was happy as it meant no more sulking travel buddy, haha. In the meantime, I decided to lay down in the park and read my book, but soon evacuated myself to the car, as the wind was determined to send me to another city! That day we felt like we were allowed to spoil ourselves, just because we were in Wellington full of bars, cafes and good vibes! We found a cosy bar with live good music where we stuffed our faces with steaks and chips on offer and a jag of pretty tasty beer. - Well fed before our ferry journey!

We had to wake up at 6 to catch the ferry, which was alright. Got a bit stressy on the way having hit the morning traffic, but turned out the ferry set off later than planned and we had to queue to get on it anyway. Having found out it's super windy on the viewing deck, we snuggled up on the armchairs, got coffees and read our books/ caught up with people on the phone. I actually really enjoyed the chill out time and got into the book's story so much I hardly wanted to go outside to take photos! Once we got off the boat, the weather was beautiful! We drove along the Charlotte Track road which gave us a taste of Merlborough Sound bays and made me wish I was the driver on those windy roads! We stopped in a little paradise-like bay where we had lunch in the sun. It was actually the first day when we were literally dying for a swim. Warmth! We jumped in and spent quite a while in the water - such a nice feeling! We were a bit cheeky and used the local campsite's outside cold showers which were turned off, but for Chris who had a screw driver it wasn't an obstacle, haha. We wished soo much we could have stayed there longer, but we had to prepare ourselves for Abel Tasman and had only one day left. We drove closer to Nelson and spent the night in a free campsite with a wonky toilet! It felt like weeing in a night club when you're tipsy and trying to "aim into a hole." I actually couldn't get out of the cubicle without Chris' catching me! We had a good laugh. All of that to stay near the beautiful river, where Chris had a swim and we got nearly eaten by sandflies!

Jobs day before Abel Tasman great walk! We used Nelson as a base where we could buy our food and gadgets that would make our lives easier. We spent quite a while on browsing around and ticking things off the list. Once we finished, it was way after 4pm and we stopped in a beautiful campsite right on the beach! Shame we didn't arrive earlier, as we could have picked some mussels during low tide!
