We headed to Mt Cook and did a 3 hour walk to Hooker Valley from where we could see Mt Cook and the glacier reflected in the lake. Aware of the ticking time, we power walked the whole thing, having a little snack break once we got to the bottom of the mountain. It was stunning and we only just managed to avoid the rain on the way back! We heard and saw a couple of small avalanches on the main beast, which was pretty cool. After the walk and being at the free campsites, we were desperate for a shower and luckily found the public one in the Alpine village. Meant we could stay in a free campsite again - near Lake Tekapo once more, where Chris could try salmon fishing in the canal. (No luck, though! :( )

It seemed at the time that a day without seeing a lake was a lost one! So, to follow that rule, we drove to Wanaka, where we had a real chill out time. We strolled around the local market, where I got my jade necklace from. (Probably got ripped off, but I liked the thought of supporting local traders rather than buying it from a factory shop!) Then, we had a picnic lunch near the lake and kept lazing about for ages! Chris had a go in the skatepark and went for a little walk. Actually, I was dying for a swim, but by the time we were finished with lunch, it got pretty chilly. We stayed in a local campsite right in the town, so we could go for a drink in the evening. Good vibes, good bar and beer! You're not too bad, Wanaka!
