YOU DON'T NEED EYES TO SEE YOU NEED VISION.....
The next morning, cold and frazzled from a night of 'checking' we headed out on the boat. We weaved along the river trying to avoid logs (no, not the type you find on Blackpool beach!) to a small plantation where a couple of local people talked us through what they grow from the land and sell in the town. They had coconuts, ginger, papaya, coffee, avacado, coco, pinapples and many more. Here I tried star fruit, lemons, limes (without the gin) and a nice finger banana mmmmm, can't go wrong.
Julie, the extreme close ups of the fruit is especially for you. All you need now is your banana protector.... ha.
I filled up my water bottle with 'safe' water which turned out to be muddy and smelly so I gave that a miss and was then handed a small red berry like thing to try. Well, 'in for a penny and all that' i popped it straight in (my mouth). I then began to sweat, my eyes were stinging and my lips and mouth were on fire - much to the amusment of the local people, the guides and the rest of my group. 'Fu*kers'! It was apparently the hottest chilli in the forest and you're not supposed to eat the whole thing. Cheers then....
In the afternoon we bobbed around on an Oxbow lake to spot all the amazing Parrots, Parakeets and Macaws. We saw a Heron and something looking like a pigeon. RRuubbbbiiissshhhhh!
We trekked back through the forest in the pitch black and deeper and deeper mud. Just as I started messing around and skidding about in my rubber boots I lost my balance and fell. Determined not to put my arms, elbow deep in jungle muck I landed full weight onto my knees. Left knee on the floor, right knee on a jagged tree stump. FFFUUUU***KKKKK! Eyes watering I got up and made light of it, more concerned that my trousers were dirty and i had no time for laundry before my next flight.
We got the boat back and did some croc spotting in the darkness with one powerful flash light. That was cool, we saw a couple of croc heads but they soon dissapeared.
Back at the lodge, Jo, Nikki and I polished off 2 bottles of wine. I slept better that night funnily enough.
Well that's my lot from the jungle. It was a amazing.
It's 8.15am and I'm heading to Lima airport at 9.30am for a flight to Ecuador. So from 'Lima with love'
