YOU DON'T NEED EYES TO SEE YOU NEED VISION.....
Today was a sightseeing day in order for me to become acclimatised a little better to the altitude. Armed with bags of coca leaves and an early start we headed towards the Sacred Valley for a challenging (or so thought at the time!) 1.5 hour trek. This turned out to be a simple walk in the park in comparison to the hike that lay ahead. The sacred valley was great, vast open space while surrounded by amazing snow capped mountains and if you stopped for a moment you could hear the Peruvian pan pipes being played in the distance, the mountains would carry the sound. It was beautiful and very spiritual. Its so traditional and rural here. I feel I have really jumped in at the deep end with the culture change, the money, the food, the language but its exactly the adventure I wanted. We stopped at local house to play a local drinking game (without the booze, which was still a no no because of the altitude) and we were then introduced to some cute ginea-pigs. Squeak, squeak....Arrrr, I thought, arnt they cute. I was then reliably informed that by tea time they would be cooked and on someones plate. I wanted to set the poor little basterds free!
That evening a few of us ventured into the town for dinner. There was so much poverty there, people begging and freezing on the streets and thousands (well a lot) of dogs and cats running around playing chicken with the traffic.
The accomodation here was rubbish.....or so I thought....
