Friday; Day 11! Today I let myself chill out to the max! A late breakfast, no makeup and my legs up on the couch :)
Afternoon comes, and Di arrives home from London, earlier than expected, which is totally fine with me and I meet her at the front door to give her a big cuddle and kiss as I haven't seen her for about 9 years! To be honest, she hasn't changed one bit - I'm the one that's suddenly as tall as ever and all grown up!
We spend the afternoon all together catching up and talking about what I've done so far on my travels before I have to go upstairs and get ready for my God-mothers Birthday tonight...
> My God-mother's name is Diane as well but I call her Aunty Di. It's an interesting story really, but 2 years ago for my 21st Birthday, Di secretly flew to Adelaide to surprise me at my birthday dinner. My brother picked her up from the airport and she startled me completely as she casually strolled into the room! I could not comprehend how she was there and I was crying in a mixture of happiness and shock! It was so special and something I will treasure forever...But, the funny thing is, I received a random Facebook msg about 5 weeks before I left Adelaide from one of Di's work friends who I didn't know. Her name was Julie. She wrote to me asking if I knew how old Di was turning this year as they suspected it was her 50th but Di wasn't letting them know! It turned out that yes, she would be turning 50 in July but she would be away on holiday during that time. So Julie messages me and I tell her that I'm actually going to be in Burton at the end of June and she then informs me that they are actually in the process of planning a surprise dinner for her around the same time! Julie says it would be great if I could make it and I suggest maybe surprising her like she did at my dinner! Time to get my own-back :p
So long-story-short, we organise for Julie to pick me up in the afternoon...As planned, Julie picks me up and we head to the restaurant with her husband, Elliot as well as another friend of Di's (Kim). The place is called the Spread Eagle and is the village go-to bar/restaurant located at the bottom of Di's driveway in Rolleston!
We get inside and some other of Di's friends are already there, with Di completely unaware of all this going on; all she thinks is that she is going for a quiet dinner for her birthday with Julie and Elliot! Once Di is about to arrive, I go and hide in the toilets for about 20 minutes awaiting my cue before I finally sneak through the restaurant and casually walk up to her where everyone's seated at the table...
Well! Her face said it all really hahahah! Her jaw dropped and she froze for a good 30 seconds before registering and bouncing up out of her chair laughing and crying and shouting 'YOU!!!!!' 'What are you doing here!!' 'How are you here?' Lol!! I give her a big hug and say how I'm getting my own-back for her surprising me!!! She was so happy to see me and I was over the moon in excitement that I could be there for her special night.
After about 2 hours of us all chatting away, we finally order food! Champagne was flowing between her friends and Di had been decorated in a bunch of '50'th banners and badges, and even a balloon all thanks to her friend Kim lol! Later on, Di mentions that her parents-in-law are over the road funninly enough playing Bingo so we go over and tell them to join us once it's finished!
So Doreen and Aubrey come over, parents to Cliff - my God-father, and husband to Di. Unfortunately Cliff passed away about 7 years ago but he is still very deep in our thoughts and hearts. So his parents come and join us, baffled at how much I've grown up as they haven't seen me since I was 9! We have a lovely night all together and Doreen and I end up talking to each other for the rest of the night.
Di then decides to mention to Doreen that I've been really wanting to go down to Bath while I'm in England but that it just hasn't worked out, especially with my plans having to change ready for Spain. Well, Cliff's brother (Martin) actually lives in Bath apparently and he'll be coming up on Wednesday to pick Doreen and Aubrey up and take them back down on the Thursday for a bit of a holiday....All of a sudden, Doreen is saying that I could come down with them when they go on Thursday and spend some time with them and that we could go around Bath together! I couldn't believe it to be honest and felt completely overwhelmed. Doreen goes on to tell me that Martin would love to have me there for sure and that she will be calling him in the morning...
So just like that, I'm apparently going to be heading down to Bath with the family and will have the privelidge of staying with them in their beautiful home. This means I will be cutting my stay in Burton 4 days short but I can always come back again and I don't want to miss an opportunity like this. I feel so blessed and so loved to be invited down and to be honest, I can not wait!
The night ends around 11.30 and Di and I arrange to catch up again next Thursday morning before I head off to Bath and before she heads off to the Maldives! Tonight was so special for me, and for Di as well - I'm so glad her friends organised the dinner and for also spontaneously contacting me when I was back in Adelaide. I love my Aunty Di so much and this definitely marks a special time in my travels.
