Monday;; Day 35! Today we go on an 'excursion' an hour away to Bolonia which is one of the closest points to Africa! On the way, we pick up Eva's friend and her son who is Alvaro's age and split between two cars, we head off with everything packed in the boot for lunch and snorkeling and smash (like tennis).
At the beach, you can see it stretching across the horizon in front of you. I think I'll just go for a casual swim over to Africa lol...The beach is absolutely packed and after struggling to find a park, we finally unload and head for the sand. White, soft sand and the water is not freezing! We strip off, grab our snorkels and head for the water. The waves are calm and the water is crystal clear; it's beautiful! It's no match to the Great Barrier Reef but Patri and I spot dozens of fish swimming right up close to the shore. She is extremely excited about the fish and frequently screams my name to come and see a new one she's found lol! So cute!
We spend the whole afternoon swimming, relaxing, eating, playing smash and then burying each other in the sand! I was only thinking it for a second before Alvaro said 'shall we bury me in the sand?!' Yes! We always used to do this when I was a kid and loved it so I'm straight onto it! It proves quite difficult with knee as today I have gained a slight limp and stiffness in my knee but still; we bury each other and take lots of photos. It's great being with kids because you can be an idiot and play around without looking loopy or completely crazy! :)
The day stays hot and bright for hours and before we even realise, it's 7pm. Eva, her friend, Patricia and I decide to walk around the bay to the other side of the beach where there is apparently these special rocks that contain a green kind of clay. Everyone knows it here and you just see people walking around looking like the hulk! You put clay on your face and body and it apparently makes your skin really smooth once you wash it off. However, I only make it a waiter of the way before my knee hurts to much so I head back and Eva says she will bring me some back! ..About an hour later they return looking rather funny and take the clay to rub all over my face and chest! I want to bottle this stuff up and take it home with me! It dries and Iet it sit until we pack up and head to the showers.
You can definitely tell this is the hippy beach as there are people everywhere with dreads, beads, practically no clothes, and jewelry all over them! Everything that characterizes a hippy lol. There are also a bunch of hippy stalls running along the back of the beach with hippies selling skirts, shells, bags, beads and all types of bracelets and anklets. I end up spoiling myself to a cute little brown leather anklet. I couldn't resist and had been looking one for a while....We all shower and get changed into nicer clothes before heading to Tarifa for something to eat.
Tarifa's beaches are apparently beautiful as well in the day and a lot of tourists go there so I think I'll have to come back to this area one day in the future. It's dark by the time we arrive but we head to a little Spanish bar with fresh raw fish stuck in a cabinet of ice out the front to greet us inside lol. It's 11pm and people are still eating; so weird! Kiki orders an array of different dishes and we see the chef take one of the fresh fish from out the front to fry.
Amazing food and an awesome day; before we head home, Alvaro, Alejandra, Eva's friends son and I head downtown to see the little markets that are still open and have a look around.
Tomorrow we will be heading to a beach in Malaga called Sal y Sol which translates to 'salt and sun'! Malaga is apparently a must-see and is a beautiful city so I will have to spend a few days there before later in the year before I leave Spain. Let me just move to Spain!
