Phew....it is hard work in Phuket what with all the sunbathing, massages, drinking (alcoholic and freshly squeezed pineapple) etc. We arrived at the airport and made the mistake of getting the bus to the hotel-2 hours later rather than the 20 minutes expected we got to our hotel in Kata Beach which was lovely with 2 swimming pools both with swim up bars and massages outside! we decided it would be rude not to so treat oursleves to a nice hour long massage which set us back a whole 3 pounds! We spent the night in the main tourist town on Patong Beach which was AWFUL, the main street was full of lots and lots of very old men prancing around with v.young girls-most under 18, it was just everywhere you looked-not nice! The next day we spent by the beach and watched a gorgeous sunset there. We thought we would experience the true thai culture so took ourselves along to an authentic thai boxing match, had such a good night-there were 9 fights and at first thought we were possibly supporting child cruelty as the first contenders were only 5 but they did get heavier and older and by the end there was full on blood and aggressiveness going on, very pretty from our front row ringside seats!
We have now moved on to the north of Phuket to Hat Yai Nang which is a little village/resort with local shacks on the beach serving food, drink and the all important massages! It is AMAZING here with white sand and turquoise waters, the sea is unbeleivable warm and clear so have spent most of my day floating around trying to catch the sun! Had a lovely massage tonight at sunset on the beach, at one point 'come on eileen' blasted out the stereo, don't think i'll ever feel the same when this comes on at an 80's club now!!
