The journey between Bariloche and Puerto Varas took us through the Andes and across the border between Argentina and Chile. Although the distance covered wasn't that far the journey took us a rather long time as the Chileans are fiercely protective of their agriculture and natural resources and won't let any food or natural products (including animal sperm which Cat pointed out on the list of prohibited items which induced childish giggles) across the border. Everyone had to disembark and have their luggage and bags checked by these amazing Lab sniffer dogs... so funny seeing other people on the bus getting busted smuggling stupid stuff like jars of honey and peanut butter, one woman had a bag of root ginger - WTF? Although funnier I suppose would have been a vile of... nope not going there ; ) While all this was going on I couldn't help but think they should have been more concerned about the meals provided for the journey by the coach operator which everyone had glanced at and discarded below their seats without touching and were still under the seats as we wound our way in to chile... priorities people!!! We arrived in Puerto Veras late afternoon, checked in to our quirky/bizarrely decorated German colonial style hotel and went out for a traditional Chilean meal with a few Pisco sours (the jury's still out) thrown in for good measure... I went to bed with a good feeling about Chile!
