The Cornwall Crusade Day 3
It's a million dollar view from St. Christopher hostel room 12, my room for 2 nights in the enchanting Newquay. I fell in love with the rusty sands and flirty waters of the Fistral beach. The beach is dotted with cute dogs, playful children and beautiful surfers. The clouds drift over the cliff's horizon like frothy milk in a cup of latte. I fell under its spell and sat on the window ledge for hours, just admiring its beauty. I thought it looked the most seductive just before the sun dropped into the equator. The orange in the sand flares up as the grey mist descends. The air is fresh and cold. Gosh, I love Newquay.
Today's adventure brought the rest to Land's End. I was incredibly sick and had to be bed ridden for the morning. A few painkillers later, I mustered enough strength to explore the little Newquay town and I'm so glad I did. It's a small town with a few souvenirs shops. I'm glad it's that way because it means it's not tourist-infested yet. I found Dorothy Perkins at one corner and they were having a 50% sale. I had to buy something to make me feel better. A pair of jeans later, my stomachache was subsiding. For a Singaporean girl like me, shopping in the United Kingdom is such a different experience. For one, the dogs here might have equal rights as Humans do, they are shopping for shoes and dresses alongside me in the stores. The dogs also take the Metro and the escalators. I almost expect them to be at the election voting booths dropping their paws of approval for their preferred political side.
I ended the day with a well-deserved dinner at the Walkabout. I devoured a hearty Bangers and Mash dish to the soundcheck of a band. It was open mic night at the walkabout and I wasn't sure if I'll get to hear an Australian band or A Brit band open. An hour's worth of drum kicks, snare hits and guitar riffs later, the band opened with "Weather With You". I would consider "Crowded House" A Kiwi Band because of Neil Finn. Well, wherever this cover band came from, the people in the pub were lapping it up. The Walkabout was packed with cute young nubile girls dancing in their mini denim skirts and teenage boys with droopy blonde hair playing poker cards. It's a buffet for the eyes. I smiled to myself thinking that the good-looking quota is pretty high in Newquay. It's rather impressive that the girls were decked out in their tiniest outfits in this unforgiving weather. I was shivering under my double layer of clothes once I stepped out of the pub. I left the rest in their revelry as I retire under a blanket of stars and fell asleep to the gentle claps of the waves as they kiss the shore.Goodnight Newquay.
