The Cornwall Crusade Day 2
I greeted the morning at a waterfall. The Canonteign falls is England's highest waterfall. That means more hiking to do. It seems like I'm getting my year's worth of exercise done on the Cornwall Crusade.
This journey to the top was a lot easier than the Cheddar gorge hike. It's like climbing a more scenic and rustic Mount Faber.
Little streams and fern gardens along the way make me feel greener than I should. It's such an unfamiliar scene with my hands shoving a thick tree branch into the sandy path rather than my hands shoving dresses into my bag and stuffing shopping receipts into the bin. I secretly feel proud of myself that I'm able to shed my shiny city self and getting acquainted with the greener side of life.
It wasn't the Niagara falls I expected at the end of the hike but I did get a kick with my Merlion spewing at the top.
The reward is sweet at the bottom of the hill. I had delicious tea and scones. The scones have just the right amount of sweetness and softness, they crumble when they meet my tongue and tumble down my throat in their strawberry rhapsody. The cream is the lightest yet richest tasting cream I've ever tasted. It looks like butter but tastes like cream. It was the ultimate mid morning treat.
Afternoon rolled on lazily and we found an excellent local meat shop that serves the freshest sandwich. We sat in the drizzling rain enjoying a late lunch on the Clappers Bridge.
The most dangerous part of the tour happened today. We went trekking up a Dartmoor tor and the fog started to envelop us. Fergie waved us to head back to the bus while he scurries ahead to rally the rest who walked into the misty oblivion. The 6 of us waited in grey gloomy weather for 2 hours. We contemplated calling for some emergency backup. I kept peering out of the window looking for some signs of life walking towards us. All I see was a slur of low grey clouds.
Fortunately, they did make in back safely before the 3rd hour mark. The lost sheeps were just slightly drenched and slightly embarrassed. The official word is that they found a bar at the top of the tor and stopped for a beer. We all knew that they were hopelessly lost. That was a heck of an adventure for Day 2 of the Cornwall Crusade.
