My (Boring) Son Temple.
We were up at 4am this morning and at the tour office ready to be picked up at 5am. Should have stayed in bed, the temple was sooo boring, maybe we thought it wasn't as impressive because we have seen Angkor Wat. It was supposed to be a sunrise tour so we were expecting to get some good photos of a warm sunrise peering over the temples. But it rained and it was cloudy. They were in the middle of a jungle which was quite cool but even on a good day I don't think you can see the sun rise.
Our guide was very enthusiastic, he continued to tell jokes thoughout the tour. To be honest he had an annoying sense of humour and talked a lot of s***. But then I guess he had to really because of how boring the site was.
The temples were made from red bricks stacked together without cement or any other mixture between them. Apparently no one knows how they have lasted so long without falling down or going mouldy.
He showed us a sculpture of what looked like a giant penis. He said the Cham people would touch the sculpture believing it would help with fertility. The guide couldn't stop giggling at it like a child which made us all laugh.
We only stayed for two hours then were taken back to the town. We packed our bags and checked out of the guest house, not before teasing the fish one last time lol.
We caught a bus to Hue at 1:30pm, it took four hours but seemed to pass really quickly. We are so used to the long distances now that a few hours to us is like driving up the road.
When we arrived in Hue we noticed the weather was really cold. A big difference from the weather we had in Can Tho which was very warm. We had been dropped off at a bus stop and didn't know where to go. The tall buildings around us looked like offices, we needed to find the backpacker area. We started walking down one road and bumped into a couple that looked like they were backpacking. They had just arrived too but had done their home work and knew where to go so we followed them.
We didn't have to go far, the streets got narrower and busier, then we came to a string of bars, restaurants and guest houses. One lady from a restaurant recommend the 'Why Not?' hotel. She said they offer free beer during happy hour which was from 5pm to 10pm! Chris didn't need much persuading so we checked in.
It was 7pm, Chris wanted some free beer so we went to the restaurant and ordered some food. It was really good and the one free beer went down nicely. That's right, we were aloud one free beer during happy hours. We had been fooled. The beers were actually expensive in the restaurant so we decided not to have more than two each then find a bar.
We walked down the road and passed a couple of lively places, I was really in the mood for a good drink but changed my mind when I felt the cold again outside. Chris was tired by then so we decided we would have another lazy night in watching films and save ourselves for a night of drinking tomorrow instead.
