Got up and had breakfast outside while we watched the sun rise. Me and Chris woke up just after the others so we missed the best part of it when the whole sky was lit up pink!
On our way to Lake Hart we stopped at a zebra crossing in the middle of the highway. We all got out and posed for a photo like the Beatles did on Abbey Road, it looked really cool.
When we arrived into Lake Hart we walked down to the salt lake. It was once an inland sea but as temperatures began to rise the sea dried up leaving only the salt behind, 80cm thick! It was pure white and the suns reflection was so bright it was uncomfortable to see without sunglasses. Chris walked over to a chair that had been dumped there and took a seat. The whole chair was crystallised by the salt and so was a big wagon wheel a few meters away.
Shelly dared us to lick the salt so without hesitation we all did. We lined up next to each other, got into a press up position and licked. The salt was wet and stuck to our clothes so we desperately tried to stay above the ground. Shelly had all of our cameras so with each shot we ended up doing seven slow push ups lol.
On our way back up to the bus Chris and Hillsey jumped into an old rusty car. They didn't pose for long and I didn't want to stay outside the bus any longer, we couldn't stand the amount of flies landing on us! Chris must have had at least a hundred on his back at one point!
After the salt lake we stopped at Woomera for lunch. Woomera is famous for launching the worlds third satellite into space. The military still use the town for testing rockets apparently, so the site had a lot of used rockets and aircrafts on display.
Lunch was quick, we scoffed down our sandwiches as quick as possible so we could get back on the bus and escape the flies! We stopped at Rangers View Lookout then drove to Port Augusta to buy some sweeties and wine for our film tonight. As we got back onto the truck we noticed a large flock of cockatoos on the grass next to us. I handed the camera over to Chris and jumped off, I just couldn't resist running into them and scaring them up into the sky! Well, actually they just moved a little further away but it was still fun.
Then we drove to Quorn town and stopped outside an old mill where we were staying for the next two nights. We had the whole mill to ourselves which was nice. We threw our bags into our rooms and waited while Shelly had a shower before heading out for dinner. I noticed Chris stroking a cat so went over to join him. The cat was huge and fat! Her fur was so soft we almost felt addicted to stroking her!
Once Shelly was ready we all walked down to a restaurant called Emilie's Diner. It used to be an old shop selling vintage clothing on one side and food on the other. The owners who bought the place decided to keep the shop the way it was but made space in the middle for tables and chairs for customers to sit and eat. They played old music and allowed us to go down into the old cellar which was a bit creepy, there were two dead mice down there! Yuk!
Back upstairs in the restaurant we noticed wires stretching across the ceiling which all led to an old cashiers box. Shelly explained that in the old days the wires were used to transfer customers cash from a till to the cashiers box. They would simply clip the cash to the wire! The whole restaurant looked very cool and after eating we were allowed to pick up some of the old items and play dress up! I picked up a brown wig and furry hat, then Chris put it on and looked very beautiful :-) I only wish we had brought our camera.
We walked back and showered, then all got comfy on the sofas in the large tv room. We decided to watch the film Wolf Creek as we were in the area that part of it was filmed. The film wasn't that great but it was still nice to chill out in front of the tv with our wine and sweets after two weeks of hiking up mountains.
