We got up at 7am and left at 8am. We went back to Emilies shop to dress up in the old clothes again and take some photos. I tried to make Jasmine appear as a ghost in one of them, the poor girl she had to walk up and down the shop five times before I got it right. It looked great though!
After playing about Shelly drove us to a spot in the road where the cover for the Wolf Creek film was made. Me and Jasmine took turns in posing as the girl crawling along the road trying to escape her killer. We had to make it quick to avoid being splattered by traffic speeding by! The roads may look quiet but it doesn't take long for a car or truck to catch you up on the road.
Next Shelly drove us to Kanyaka Homestead historic site, where we had a walk around an old sheep sheering station. In 1864 the station had around 40,000 sheep going through to be shorn, but when the boss died in a freak accident due to flash flooding in the area, the station was closed and never used again. On our way around the site me and Chris found the old fire place and in it was the skeleton and skin of what appeared to be a kangaroo or wallaby! It looked like it had been there for a long time.
After we hiked for forty five minutes up to Yourambulla Caves to view some early indigenous rock paintings created by the Aboriginal people thousands of years ago. They weren't as impressive as some of the paintings we had seen earlier in our tour but they were still interesting to see, although Hillsey didn't think so and made everyone laugh when he shouted out "Is this it?!"
We hiked back down and were on the road again, we stopped at Hawker Town after a few hours to give Shelly a break from driving and to see some paintings in a shop. We got free coffee in there so we walked around for a bit. The paintings and photographs were amazing!
After our coffee we went on a long three hour hike through Flinders Ranges National Park, the walk Shelly chose for us was called Mount Ohlssen-Bagge Hike and was 6.4 Km. It started of easy walking on a path through a forest area, then we came to a more rockier path that led to the bottom of the mountain, from there we had to start climbing over rocks and boulders, the views along the way were beautiful. We had to stop a couple of times to catch our breath and drink some water, then we continued up. The weather was very cool and the light breeze was lovely. When we finally reached the top we were 923 meters high, we were hot, tired and so hungry! We sat down on boulders and ate our lunch that Shelly carried up with her, well Chris carried the heavy stuff. We had ham or chicken with salad wrapped in pancakes! That's right, pancakes! We have only ate pancakes with syrup or honey but it was actually very nice! I recommend trying it. We stayed there for at least twenty minutes taking in the 360 degree view. We could see other mountains around us, it was pretty impressive. The breeze was a lot stronger at the top though so it wasn't long before we were all cold and ready to hike back down. We were faster going down but it felt more difficult, some rocks were steep and slippery. We all made it down safely and were pleased we did the walk.
As the hike only took three hours instead of four, Shelly took us on a 26Km road detour through scenic surroundings. We managed to take in some of the green countryside lush with sheep and cattle but most of the time we were half asleep. The extremely bumpy roads were the only thing keeping us awake. They were so bumpy that our new camera went flying off the seat next to Chris and bashed against the floor. Fortunately only the lens protector smashed and the rest was working fine. But now we need to buy a new lens protector.
When we got back to the old mill we got ready for dinner in a pub called the Austral pub, Chris had a really nice goat curry and I had a nice Thai Green curry. Then we went back and all sat around the tv. An Abo friend of Shelley's came over to show us the paintings he had created today. One was very good so Chris bought it for only $25! Chris stayed up watching the big bang theory while I went to bed.
