We arrived in Oz first thing on the 17th. Charlie was most unimpressed to discover no TV set on her chair on the plane! we jumped on the bus and checked into a hostel. Our first dormitary experience! we spent the evening checking out the local Cairns hangout with our new travelling buddy Joe. The following day was spent pottering around town playing in the lagoon and watching the band in the park. We booked to go Scuba diving the following day which we were very excited about. Sunday had arrived and it was time to board Den's diving boat for our Scuba diving. As we set off the crew said it might get a little 'choppy'. Choppy!!!! that was an understatement, and Manda spent most of the journey there outside with the other Southern fairies being sick!!!
How to describe our Scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef... just incredible. Our friend Hannah from home described it as being an extra in Finding Nemo. Charlie took to Scuba diving much better than I did, but as soon as the instructor had coaxed me into actually going under water we were off. The sea was majestic blue, we were swimming with Turtles and all sorts of tropical fish. Some of the most experienced divers even seeing the odd shark or two.
After we had Scuba dived it was off for a bit of snorkelling. After lunch Charlie had even signed up for a second dive, with our instructor Pete. This time there were no skill practice just straight into the deep blue sea. She came out of the sea of a real buzz!! Check out the photos beacuse words just convey it well enough.
