Happy 45th anniversary to my mom and dad!!! Sorry, dad, we've got her very far away. You'll have to celebrate next week. :)
So today was basically a travel day. Main goal: Get back to Freising, which is the closest town to Munich International Airport before our Sunday flight. We began with a return trip to the same bakery for breakfast and then took our time packing up. We then reversed our route, and took a cab to the train station in Saal, train to Regensburg, train to Freising, cab to our hotel. This time we are on the opposite end of town, nearer the airport. Hotel Mercure. As we saw flight crew checking in as we arrived, I think that we're as close as we can get to the airport!
We were pretty hungry upon arriving, so we walked just a few minutes right into the heart of the old city center and found, you guessed it, pizza. And some pasta and bruschetta. We then moved a couple of blocks over to the original biergarten that we'd had lunch in on Tuesday where we had a couple of drinks (hello, my beloved Aperol Spritz), and then got talked into sampling some schnaps. WARNING: Schnaps in Germany basically just means booze. Booze that had some sort of fruit fermented in it or something, but it is not, I repeat NOT anything like the peppermint and peach schnapps of the USA. This stuff BURNS. I had plum, Steph got apricot. These had at least some sort of fruit aroma, if not so much a fruit taste. Erica had what was apparently white plum. But it resembled in taste more what the German word looked like - car trunk. And as Steph put it about my mom's schnaps? It tastes like an old church smells. And it really, really did. So, disclaimer - there is an unsuitable for children's eyes photo in the photo album today. Just showing our feelings towards these liquors. Granted, the glassware was really nice. :)
We stopped briefly at the restaurant next to the hotel for a last nibble and beer for the ladies. (I just couldn't. I'm so beered out!!) Then to the hotel to pack and relax before one last night of sleep. Flight tomorrow is not until 3:25 pm, so we've got more time to pack and relax in the morning as well!
See you back in America!!!
