Olá! Long time no see :-)
Since the last time I wrote, I have been working at the center for street boys for a couple of weeks. The center has been closed since the 13th of November and opens again on the 19th of January. But it has been really interesting working with the boys. We have been teaching them a little bit of English, but they have a hard time remembering it, so we might have to start over again in January.. We have also been playing some games and they have taught us some of their games and songs and it has been great being there so far.
At the end of November there was a kite boarding festival here in Maputo where professional kite surfers from all over the world were competing. It was so cool and they're really fast and good! They had a freestyle competition where they had to do freestyle jumps in the air. Wow! I took a lot of videos, so I have to try to upload some of them at some point..
Last week I went to Tofo (which is about 400 km north of Maputo) with two friends for four days. It was a great trip! The place we stayed at was really cool and laid-back. One of the guys who worked there gave us a surf lesson one day! We took his boards out and he taught us paddeling and just to balance your body on the board. Damn, it's way harder than it looks!! But we had a lot of fun and we got to take his boards out again the next day as well. Unfortunately we did not stand on the board yet though.. They say it takes a while before you can do it. We also went on an ocean safari, where you are supposed to swim with whalesharks! We did not find any, and that was actually okay with me. They are not dangerous to people (they eat plankton) but they are just so huge and scary-looking!! But we had about 10-15 dolphins jumping around our boat and we jumped in the water to see them under water :-) It was a cool experience. Tofo is just the most beautiful place ever! Unfortunately I have been robbed here in Maputo, so I didn't have a camera with me to Tofo.. But I think I still have pictures from last summer, when I was in Tofo with Nils, my dad and Christina.
That must be about it for now.. Nils is coming tomorrow!! He's only staying for two weeks during Christmas vacation. But it's going to be nice to see him and spend time with him again. Thursday Nils and I are going to Inhaca and next Wednesday we are all leaving for Cape Town, where we're gonna be for Christmas as well. I'm really looking forward to all of it :-)
I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! And I hope you all enjoy your holidays.
Love,
Chanel.
