We had a fantastic weekend. First thing Saturday we packed the car with our bikes and an overnight bag and set off for Darling on the West Coast. Sadly the skies were grey and a light mist was clinging to the coast. Not to be put off, we pushed on to Darling where we checked into the "Darling Lodge" and confirmed our dinner reservation at the "Marmalade Cat". We then drove into the West Coast National Park. The national park is vast. There were carpets of flowers in every direction we looked, a deep lagoon and rugged coastline. We drove to the North of the park where the flowers are at their best and cruised around flower and wildlife spotting. We also took the bikes out and had a short cycle!
With our lungs full of coast air, we returned to the "Darling Lodge" where we freshened up before heading out to dinner. The "Marmalade Cat" is a wonderful curiosity shop come restaurant. The food was wonderful, incredibly homely and very filling!
We slept well it goes without saying!!!
We rose on Sunday to a beautiful sunny day and sped back to Cape Town via the Western Coast beaches - eyeing up dog exercising locations (yes, Nigel has convinced me that he needs a companion to exercise with during the day)!!! The new addition to the Green family is a 4-week-old black Labrador - a pedigree no less. We have christened the pup Cider and look forward to her arrival on 8 October.
Anyhow back in Cape Town we leapt onto our bikes and shot up the hill to High Level Road, which takes you around Signal Hill to Lions Head via the "Kensington" of Cape Town - Clifton to Camps Bay and then back along Beach Road. Although done in after 10 minutes both Nigel and myself made it round. There is much room for improvement but we were very chuffed to have accomplished our first 45-minute ride. Sunday afternoon was spent watching the Arsenal of course and phoning home whilst sat in our front terrace enjoying very pleasant 20 degrees worth of sunshine!
We'll write again soon. Love to all, Cath & Nige x
