Wed. July 7th thru Monday July 12th, 2010 Sherando Lake Corps of Engineers CG
We hooked up the Jeep and started up the hill to leave the campsite when Rod looked into the rear view camera to see the Jeep swinging from side to side. Something wrong here! I jumped out of the coach to discover that he had put the pins into both holes that attach the tow bar to the coach but he didn't attach one of them to the coach. He must not have had his reading glasses on. Took a different way out of Philpott Lake so we didn't have to go over the bridge limited to 14 tons that we took into Philpott Lake…….we are 19 tons plus the Jeep. One time was enough! Drove the Parkway from Roanoke to Sherando Lake. Tried to hook up the electric but had a bad box. John, the camp host happily fixed it for us and we had 50 amp electric. Spent the next day in Waynesboro doing laundry (at a Laundromat) and drove around looking for a McDonalds as they have WiFi. Went to Monticello for most of the day then drove around Charlottesville looking for a Pet Smart to buy tick medicine/repellent for the Mox. (Had found 2 ticks on her the night before). Appomattox Court House and the D-Day Memorial (in Bedford) on Saturday. And this is for Bob Hite…….met one of your old neighbors at Sherando…..Paul and Flo Slater. They said "hello". Montpelier on Sunday. Also went to the old depot and an old "freed man" cabin that has been restored. The Barboursville Winery had closed by the time we got there, but we did visit Governor Barbours mansion that had been destroyed by fire, and were so impressed by how grand it must have been in its day. Did a mini tour of historic Staunton (pronounced Stanton) with an old friend of Rods ex-wife Paula. Ann has lived there for over 25 years and everywhere we went she knew people. Real small town "roots". Nice town of 25,000 people and tons of historic homes and buildings. We wished it hadn't been pouring rain though.

The Hites How bout that, a shout out from the Slaters! We're just back from Yellowstone and Glacier. Was getting HDVideo of both for our files as all our footage is SD so little by little we are updating our library. Also discovered Colorado Route 141, a long canyon drive at "Golden Hour" (Rod knows), a stunning drive that was as impressive as the parks. You will have to do it in your rig when you get out here. Spoke to Dan Bradley tonight. He is recovering from a complere port knee replacement but in great spirits and GM at an MG station in Ohio. Keep going so you can keep em coming you guys!
NICK & MARTY We envy you guys---been trying to leave forever...not working with my Mom still in hospital. Nick's reunin is coming up so hope we can leave shortly...be safe!!!!! have a good time....love ya!!
Ray Blush Well, at least you discovered the towbar pin problem before something drastic happened. Another friend forgot one of the two locking pins at the towed vehicle end and realized it when his towed pickup careened into the bridge rail! Happy travels! (Good to hear of the old sea dogs travels to Yellowstone -Fishing Bridge? - and Glacier - Waterton?- HI BOB!) Ray
