July 2 thru July 6, 2010 Salthouse Branch Park Philpott Lake, Henry, VA
Other than a few nights that got a little chilly………we are experiencing temperatures that feel as if we haven't left Florida yet. It has been HOT! And what's with the "fire rings"? Even if the nights cooled down enough to sleep with the windows open you can't because the entire camp ground reeks of smoke.
We met up with Ray and Linda Blush, whom Rod has known for many years, and spent a few days together. Drove into Roanoke with them on Saturday and saw the city from Mill Mountain and saw the BIG Star that Roanoke is famous for. We did have AT&T cell service so we called the kids, Leigh and Jeffrey, to have them watch us on a live internet camera. On the 4th of July we listened to patriotic music that our Indian or Pakistani neighbors were playing……Mid Eastern music…..not the customary music you would expect to hear on the 4th! Moxie and I went for a walk on a trail thru the forest just before it started to get dark and it amazes me to no end how that little dog follows the trail. Not that she wouldn't run into the woods if I let her off her leash, but she actually has her nose to the trail and pulls me along. How does a dog know to follow the trail????
Went to the Philpott Lake Dam and museum to see how the dam was built and how it has helped the area.
