After a fitful night of sleep due mostly to jet lag, we got ready for breakfast at 8:30 so we could begin our day at 9. Our breakfast options consisted of eggs, toast, yogurt, orange juice, bananas and oranges and cereal. I decided to stick with yogurt and toast. Dairy is not a prominent part in a Thai diet so no butter on my toast. After breakfast we divided up into two groups, A and B, to divvy up the work for the next two weeks. I am in group B so I gave a specific schedule got the first week and then we switch schedules the second week. Today was mostly an orientation of sorts so we began by meeting more animals of the bird variety and brainstorming enrichment ideas for the birds, otters, and gibbons. We also got to check out the jackals and some rabbits. We then headed back to the common area for lunch at noon. For lunch I had sticky rice and papaya salad, which had a surprising kick to it, but was very delicious. I have been sticking to a vegetarian diet of sorts just because of how picky I tend to be involving meat. After lunch there was a group of Thai photographers so we hung out at a picnic bench chatting and then shortly after Sawong came over and we started our lesson on Thailand. We learned about the capital, neighbouring countries, religion, jobs, the flag and some Thai phrases as well that we get to practice tomorrow morning at the 8 am flag ceremony where the workers sing the Thai national anthem while raising the flag. Then, because we are group B we will have breakfast and begin our work day at 9. We are able to start an hour later because this first week we are in duty for the night feeding of the lorises. After our Thai lesson we watched documentaries on animal trafficking and then prepared the food for the loris night feeding. We cut vegetables a boiled them for the lorises. Because we finished so close to dinner everyone was still hanging out at the common area and we played heads up, the slap game and telephone. Then the lady came a 6:30 with dinner and I had sticky rice and cooked vegetables of sort with watermelon, a welcome treat. After dinner I came back, showered and went to sleep before we got up at 9:45 for loris feeding. We forgot bug spray and were eaten alive! But as soon as we were done we walked back and climbed right back into bed.

Grampa K sounds like you're getting into the swing of things and having a good time. How many times a day do the lorises? Are these the pygmy variety or one of the others? Thai lore says they're venomous but I think they just have bad breath and dental hygiene. Post a pic of you feeding one of the little darlings. Be careful and enjoy, we all miss and love you.
Patti Hi Carly, What's been going on lately with you??? Maybe you are now home? Love you! G'ma Patti
