The Bay of Islands is our last little bit of our Kiwi Experience right to the 'winterless' top of the country. The area is really nice by the water and is actually really warm. We took a day trip to the very top where we packed all sorts into our action packed day. We drove on ninty mile beach which is actually a public highway even though it is a beach. This meant racing along through the shallows of the sea racing against other buses. Great fun. We also came across a seal that was lounging about on the sand and who allowed us right up close. Amazing. We also went snad boarding whcih was scray but so much fun. Basically we climbed a huge snad dune and then laid down on a body board and slid down. It is unbelievable how fast you actally go and how sandy you get! Wea lso visited a sacred mauri arae where 2 seas meet but they are at differnet tides to each other so churn up where they meet. It was a lovely place where you could spend hours staring out to sea. We then finished our day off with fish and chips and a pub quiz. The next day we had a bright idea of walking along the waterfront but the heavens had other ideas. Evertime we stepped outside it absolutly poured with rain. I ahve never been so wet! O well we managed to do food shopping instead so it wasnt a completely wasted day!
