IT'S TIME FOR AN UPDATE, DUDES! About time, ja? Ja.
So! Since my last blog entry, plenty has happened. Due to the number of months, events, and my laziness, I am not going to be able to describe everything. Sorry, but if you're really that interested, speak to me when I'm back in Scotland and I shall speak until I bore you to death (=
Ehmmmm... Christmas holidays were epic! Table Mountain was a b**** to climb, I had too many shots on Long Street and I spent too much money. It was an insane holiday.
We arrived back at Otjikondo accompanied by the Gqaina Lads! (Scott and Stewart) It made the start of term a bit of a continuation of the holidays since we would have been going from a huge group of teenagers back to two volunteers working in the middle of no where with no social life! So that was nice! Plus, they helped out with our GAP duties! Stewart took an arts and PT lesson which thankfully failed as epically as some of ours do, and Scott helped me out with painting the 'Africa Rocks' (drama) backdrop =D Once they left to head back to Gqaina, we were all very sad! We got over it.
Once the Gqaina Lads left, Jack arrived! Our new Namibian volunteer! He was sent to St Michaels Missionary, just down the road from Otji! 'down the road' meaning 20km away, but still! That's 'down the road' for Namibia.
Not going to lie, the start of term this year was pretty awful. We didn't have anything huge to occupy ourselves with! The only thing was Otjikondo's 20th Anniversary, which was of course a huge deal, BUT, preparation for that didn't start very intensely until about 2 weeks before! So life was very routine, we were asking for more things to do, and the month of February just seemed to drag a little bit!
March finally came though, and everything seemed to start speeding up! We had a lovely Independence Celebration at Otjikondo for Namibia's 21st birthday! Traditional Namibian dress, dancing, and singing all went on during the morning before all of the children, teachers, and GAPs went their separate ways for a much needed long weekend! Jordan and I headed off to Windhoek to stay with our freind Steph, who we met at the Swakopmund Music Week we took part in at the start of our Christmas holidays. St Michael's volunteer, Jack, came down with us. We got a lift down on the back of a bakkie where we got sunburnt AND caught in torrential rain with no waterproofs to keep us drive! It was hilarious. The Gqaina Lads also joined the party and we had a pretty awesome weekend! (=
Our little Otjikondo Music Project we have going on is definitely setting off! The recorders are improving every week and Jordan has been teaching two Grade 6 boys the violin! =D Jordan and I have also unpacked our own instruments a few times! Once Sunday after church, Reiner Stommel, spontaneously surprised us that we wanted us to perform a concert for him at his Heritage Centre at 'Oenitzaub' - spelling could be wrong. He told me we should be at his house at 4pm with instruments and music. To be honest, we were s***ting ourselves. We unprepared and there's nothing scarier than trying to impress Reiner Stommel! We wanted to make him proud. For what started off as an exhasberated fluster, turned out to be extremely successful and fun day! =D Definitely one of the most memorable days of my year so far (=
OTJIKONDO'S 20TH ANNIVERSARY! Woo!!! It was immense! Jordan and I were working the whole time, but nonetheless, it was a very special occassion and very successful and everybody who attended had a great time (= The church service was beautiful, the drama went down perfectly, and there was plenty of music, dancing, and food to keep everyone happy - hoorah! As well as the big celebration, we also had the company of ex-GAP, Grace, Jack, the Gqaina Lads, and John Fraser from Project Trust! It was all very fun(=
Once the Anniversary was over, all our guests left - minus Grace - but in no more than a week, they were all back ready to head off travelling! =D Well, John Fraser wasn't, but everyone else was =D
We spent that week before - Jordan, Grace, and I - being in charge of Grade 1, Grade 2, and Wings classes! We watched a lot of TV... Ha!
And that was the term. I will write about the holidays next(=
