Am sat in a cyber cafe in Sauraha with a Nepali guy playing Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here on his guitar.
Thought I'd describe a typical day:
Woken up any time between 5.30 and 6.30 am by either Bernie the peacock landing on the roof, or the little old man ringing the bells very loudly in the Hindu temple behind my room.
Tea (with cinnamon) at 7.10 then a ten minute very brisk walk (it's still cold in the morning) to school for the first class - the under 12's who do go to normal school. BAck to Sitamai (it's the local pub, by the way - trust me for that!) and we have Dhaal Bhaatt at any time between 10 and 11.30. Time is very random here.
Dhaal Bhaat (sp) is white rice with lentil soup, with a spoonful of some sort of curry (usually vegetable). Main dish of Nepal. Luckily I like it as we eat it twice a day.
After that, depending on time, might wash clothes, plan lessons or go to Happy Home to help out.
Next lesson at 12 - the village kids who don't go to school. Will give more detail on that in another blog.
Off to Happy Home or Sitamai -walk by river, read (very hot by then). Secilla might give us a snack at about 3, with tea (noodles, Bhaat Maas)
Next lesson at 5, then back to Sitamai for tyhe evening. Dhaal Bhaat again at 8-9.30. Unless Asim brings a goat head...
