ok so got up late again 10.30am! must be jet lagged still cant sleep at night cant wake up in the morn (nowt new really!)
we got a pink taxi over to the grand palace. i had to go shopping before we actually went in tho to get some modest clothing - i have none lol! i hustled my way through the street sellers and touts and hardly saw anything! looked like some lady had the niche so ended up payin 100bht for a white top - see pics that made me look preggerz not impressed but hey i was allowed in and it stoppped people starin at my breasts instead they were laughing at how silly i looked!
as you walk into the Grand Palace you are completly in awe at how ornate it is. everything shiny gold and huge! naturally its packed with tourists so hard to get the images your taking in on camera. i did try lots.
i saw the emerald buddah - a tiny little buddah on top of a huge golden pyrimid (sorry julie for spelling mistakes no spell checker on here) its actually made out of jade and you can't even see its green. however this takes nothing away from the fact that its so beautiful and calm. obvioulsy this is a place of worship and nothing distracts you from this. monks and other people alike are all meditaing and offering to the statue its pretty amazin to think that we're coming to look at something historical.. thats still being used for the same thing today even with all the tourists!
the palace grounds were huge, check out the pics for some of the buildings within the walls. it was soooooo hott in my new found outfit! after a quick stop for water. we left the palace to find something for breakfast we found meat kebabs being cooked on a grill in the street they looked good and not covered in sauce so we went for something called chicken... small doughy balls of mush that tasted like fish (which i left) and ones that were just noodle dough i think? edible describes this!
we walked along a road headed towards the democracy monument, passed Sanam Luang a park used for flying kites! although there wasn't much wind so not many kites!
finally got to the monument not very impressive after you've walked all that way to see it. it's like a roundabout (infact its like those stones nr the new bridge in barny) -(sorry thailand) Although on the bright side there was a maccy d's so i had a chicken sandwich yummy best food since i got here (i hate to admit that)
next we walked for another 30mins down to the giant swing. it was used in brahmin festivals it's huge and they used to swing on it to try n grab bags of gold! i really wanted a go... but it was abolished in 1935 'cause too many people died!
another 30mins down manic streets scooters everywhere and tiny alleyways that interlock them and we got to the golden mountain - our map skills are getting better!
after cutting across a few slums we made the climb up the man-made mountain 76m high. the steps wind round it and have shrines and waterfalls on the way up. there were also lots of bells but no1 to ask what they were for naturally i rang them wicked sound!
the side of the mountain made a perfect platform for checkin out the cities skyline. on reaching the top you enter a circular Wat (temple) the whole edge of the room has massive windows cut into it and the panoramic view over Bangkok is awesome. if theres one thing you do in bangkok let it be this!
the view really is breathtakin and not great for vertigo! its soooo strange to see Cosmopolitan skyscrapers, bridges, road structures, lights etc, and then everywhere inbetween slums.
in the centre of the wat there is a spire that people cover in gold leaf bought as an offering they really go at it. but whats funny is thai people on the whole are quite short so the bottom is gleaming and the top quite dull!
you can climb a few more steps that take you on to the rook of the wat, and you stand at the foot of a gigantic golden spire - it looks amazing in the sunlight! monks were displaying fruit like coconuts at the foot of it as an offering! they had to carry them all the way up!
the view from up here really is the highlight of bangkok - best thing i've seen so far!
we managed to find our way along the the 90min walk bk to the hotel which seemed like a mystery tour.
was exhausted from the heat and all the walking today.
we couldn't decide on what to eat pye went for crisps from the supermarket i was brave and went for a chicken drumstick kebab (yes mum i ate it off the bone!) and somit again i was told was chiken although i thought it looked like yummy beef...think it was heart texture was awful yukky!
so ending another evening hungry - i want some food would even be happy with boiled rice if it werent soaked in fish juice!!!
wish i could eat fish - although think i might be thinner when i get home!
(uploading 2days pics 2mo as i can't fit my stick in this pc)
