After a rocky start here in Rio things have picked up like you can´t believe!
Yesterday we went on a city tour seeing all the biggest sights. Included was the Christ statue, Sugar loaf (see picture), Tijuca national park, a modern cathedral and lunch on Copacabana ++. Our group was quite small and for once, well functioning. We also made a new friend, a law professor (yes professor, as in 11 years of university education, auch!) from the US who was really cool. He was nothing like any of the lawprofessors I´ve ever seen: africanamerican, huge afro, and not wearing a suit. Discussing american politics over lunch was so much fun!
On that cue, I´m kind of surprised how well things are going between Guro and me. I mean, we pretty much new there wouldn´t be any arguments before leaving, but we haven´t had any big surprises living so close to one another. We have, as you now know, discussed american politics with a professor over lunch, but we´ve also discussed art. We laugh so hard we cry in lack of oxygen (pretty much every day) and sometimes for hardly a reason at all. We´ve been harrassed on the street together and met so many fantastic and interesting people. As our trip is coming to an end so quickly, we have no regrets! Even though we want to come back someday, this has surely been the experience of a lifetime!
Wow, this was a bit heavy... We still have a couple of days though, before turning our noses back home to Europe, and we´re going to make the best of it.. Meaning: BEACH! I´m going to try loading up a couple of more pictures, but it´s been difficult because of the lack of broadband..
