The week began with quite a full on introduction to roping. A couple of weaners managed to escape the adgistment paddock they were in, then make their way about 10 km south crossing the 4-lane TransCanada highway on their journey. Quite a crazy week weather wise this one. Started off with sunshine on Monday and then on Tuesday we had quite the cocktail of events. It was humid in the morning and then hot/sunny around lunch. Firstly I can now say that I have seen three moose together, which is apparently quite rare!! I didn't manage to get a photo but it was quite exciting to see them. My second week has definitely been more hectic than the first. The cows were due to calve last Friday and they have definitely reached their due date!! Anywhere between 20 and 30 calves are been born each day so there is lots of tagging and calf saving going on. For some reason they don't name...

My first week at Little Rainbow Ranch has been quite interesting. The cows (mostly black angus) get fed every day so that takes a fair amount of time with two tractors going (one silage the other hay). Also when it is really cold you have to put straw out for them so they have somewhere warm to sit.
