Hello!
We've been really behind with our journal entries so thought we'd update you with what we got up to on the beautiful Thai islands!
We first headed to the islands off the east coast, where we took a night ferry to reach Ko Tao (turtle island). We were so excited to be here and couldn't wait to check out the beaches! Found a great place to stay - Rocky Resort (check out the photos) on Thian Og (shark point) on the quieter side of the island. Spend 5 extremely chilled out days here soaking up the sun and snorkelling. Ko Tao's annual Underwater Festival took place on our beach so we had 2 nights of live music - lots of Reggae and an awesome band performing covers including Incubus - was brilliant! There was also a Miss and Mr Ko Tao competition which was pretty funny.
We then split up for a couple of days ... Cat went to meet Ming and Laura (Jordan) in Ko Samui for a few days while Kush went straight to Ko Phangan. Had a great time in Samui hanging out in Ming and Jordans luxury bungalow and stealing their lovely clean clothes! I was treated to burgers and cocktails - amazing - and was great to catch up on all the girly goss!
We stayed in Haad Rin on Ko Phangan which was full of travellers wanting to party! Bumped in to Laine and Adrien (we'd met previously in Vietnam) and met a couple of sound guys from Melbourne - Tim and John, who we spent loads of time with. The Black moon party fell half way through our stay so we all had a great drunken night, partying until 07-00am! The redbull in the Samsung buckets keeps you awake for hours and somehow enables you to dance to Trance music and enjoy it - great stuff! Was pretty crazy with all the fluorescent lights and glowing tattoos.
Ming and Jordan met us for our last few days. We went on a tour of the island with lots of snorkelling and had some cool nights out drinking on the beach at Cactus bar.
We then crossed back to the mainland through to the westcoast to the amazing Ko Phi Phi. If you could take away the thousands of tourists this island would be awesome - but it was still pretty damn good all the same! Went on a great boat trip where we saw Maya Bay (where the Beach was filmed) and other beautiful beaches. Also had a great laugh with the locals on the boat and shared many a beer whilst watching the sun go down.
Decided to go on a Discovery scuba dive and it was absolutely amazing. Our instructor, Mel, and the rest of the diving crew at Visa divers were really cool and made it even more fun. We knew we'd enjoy it but we both fell in love with the underwater world and so extended our stay in Phi Phi to complete the PADI course. It took 3 days and included 4 more dives which were great. We swam with turtles, saw Leapord sharks, a sea horse, and so many beautiful corals and tropical fish, including many a Nemo! We're now qualified to dive to 18metres so hoping to get a bit more practice in in Oz if funds permit! Enjoyed a great last night out with some of the Visa divers. We had such a good time here we were really sad to leave but the sadness was short lived once we hit Malaysia :)
