Hello!
Unfortunately we didn't have as much time in Malaysia as we'd have liked, but the time we did have was awesome.
We started in the Perhentian Islands where we stayed on the beautiful Kecil. We're glad this was our last island in Asia as it put the Thai islands in the shade. We arrived by longtail speed boat, which was damn scary - we didn't waste anytime putting our life jackets on! The monsoon season was only just ending - think our boat spent more time flying in the air than on the water! On the plus side though, the island was so quiet - it felt like we had it to ourselves - paradise!
After a day of some serious chilling, we went on the best snorkelling trip imaginable! Went to about 6 points around the island and saw Black Tip sharks, and swam with huge turtles and Pirate fish (Kush can't get over how good and mean looking the Pirate fish were!) The water was amazingly clear, which helped us on our mission to find Nemo on each dive we do! Later that night, we were introduced to Monkey Juice by the locals, a light rum, but gets the locals smashed - v.funny! Kush didn't sleep until 04-30am, which didn't help getting the 08-00am boat!
Our next stop was the Taman Negara rainforest! Here we spent 3 days trekking and sleeping in the jungle amoungst tigers, leopards and elephants - none of which we saw! But we did see a pair of mean glowing eyes from our Bumbun (hide/hut) which we're almost certain must have belonged to a white Bengal tiger! Trekking was a mission and a half, but a great laugh - especially as we did it on our own without a guide, although we did have the lovely Jola with us. But even Jola couldn't stop us getting lost for 2 hours in dense jungle on the second day! The only downside of the trek was getting attacked by leeches, which seemed to love our English blood!
We then returned to civilisation in the capital Kuala Lumpur. We stayed in China town, which had great markets for food and shopping. On the second night we splurged on a 6 pound each per night hotel (with TV in room) so Kush could watch the Liverpool - Barcelona game at 03-30am local time! Then it was back to our 2 pound per night box. Whilst here we climbed the spectacular Petronas twin towers and the KL telecommunications tower for some panoramic views of the city.
On thursday, we left for Singapore on our luxury flight like coach with armchair-like seats, leg rests and fluffy pink pillows - England needs to sort it out!
