Hey,
We've been pretty slack with updating lately - but are going to have a mammouth sesh now to make up for it!
After Nha Trang, we hit Mui Ne, a small town on the coast. We arrived in the early hours and after a few hours kip went exploring. Hired out Benzie (125cc scooter) for the day and first headed for the huge white sand dunes. Some young local kids showed us the way and together we went sand sledding. It was baking and the sand was flying everywhere so we had some fetching sand burn to add to the sunburn! Only had a few goes as it was too much of a mission climbing back up the dune! Was a good laugh though.
We then went to hunt down the Fairy Spring, which was a really shallow stream running through amazing multi coloured sand dunes - very picturesque! Only downside was the seriously strong stench of fish coming from the nearby harbour. We were warned we'd smell Mui Ne before seeing it and it's so true!
We later on continued our bad habit of running out of petrol (cheapskates!) The locals find it hilarious but are equally helpful.
We nearly missed our bus to Saigon - the driver decided not to stop at our guest house so Kush had to run after it! Saigon is Crazy - makes Hanoi seem tranquil! The number of scooters on the roads is unbelievable - 3 million compared to just 300,000 cars. Went on a day trip to see the Cu Chi tunnels and war remnants museum which were pretty harrowing but very interesting.
The next day we began our 2 day trip to Cambodia via the Mekong Delta. Along the way we visited a coconut candy factory, bee hive and met a very friendly Python that we held around our necks, whilst drifting through the rice paddies and fish farms.
On the second day, we bumped in to the Danish lads from Hoi An. It was a long boat ride to the border but a welcome break from buses! Was also broken up by an incident where our boat became beached in shallow waters and we saw an incredible feat where 5-6 local fisherman hauled two huge boats carrying bricks out of the way with just their backs, so ours could squeeze through. Got some great photos of them in action (cigarettes in mouths!) it's just a shame we can't put them up.
We had 15 awesome days in Vietnam and managed to cram in loads. Every town was so different to the previous and the people everywhere were just lovely. Only wish we could have stayed for longer.
