At the last night I had in Miami before driving to Orlando, I went to a small music club called Jazid.
I talked my english hostel-friend Stu into going there, and actually I wanted to go cause I heard it was a reggae-bar. It turned out they had live music that night, or maybe more specific some sort of talent show.
Among the performers were a female singer-songwriter who didn't play her guitar very well, but had a perfect voice. Furthermore a comedian (ok), a spoken word-artist a country/pop/alternative-band and then the highlight of the night: The hiphop group Think Tank.
The concerts were downstairs at the bar and between the performers me and Stu went upstairs, where a cooool DJ played some nice reggae and hiphop-tracks, and he played very loud. It was a very smoky bar upstairs, but the atmosphere and music was absolutely perfect.
Back to the Think Tank. They played some very nice tracks, and their energy on stage was in top. They had plenty of different kind of numbers, so they really showed potential in different ways. Nice raps, a singer with a nice voice and very cool textwriting in their songs.
One track was kind of reggaeish, and no songs were kind of like the others. They were versatile in a good way, if you can say so.
After the concert they gave out free copies of their Mashed Potatoes-CD and I listened to it three times on my way to Orlando. I really like their music and hope to see them live again some day.
And to you people going to Miami: Try out Jazid. Its open 'every damn night' (as they say), and I would certainly love to come back there if I ever come to Miami again. It was a super night, but kind of sad I only discovered Jazid on my last night in Miami.
