Ups and downs from Miami to Orlando
A few days ago I had planned to leave Miami and go to Orlando. But it didn't go as planned.
I had booked a seat in the train, but because of some misunderstandings between me and the lady working in my hostel in Miami, I missed my train.
I was pretty surprised to find out, that there were no more trains out of the Miami Amtrak Station that day. Two departures a day?!? I thought I could just catch the next departure, but no.
That meant, that I was stuck at the railway station located right next to Liberty City, where you shouldn't go unless you have a joypad in your hands and are playing Grand Theft Auto.
The 'information-man' at the station didn't really have any advice for me what to do. He just told me NOT to walk around in that area with my bags and my blond hair, and left me with two opportunities. The bus to the airport or the bus back to South Beach.
Since I already had booked a night in a hotel in Orlando, I chose the first opportunity. After waiting an hour for the bus, I jumped on an it took me to Miami International Airport.
In the airport I found the car rental companies and rented a car for one day, so I could drive to Orlando. Actually it wasn't just 'any car', cause I couldn't resist the offer, when they told me I could upgrade to a Ford Mustang Convertible for 30 USD.
So I jumped into my beautiful blue convertible and drove towards Orlando. It was a nice ride, and since I like to cruise by quiet slow speed, it got pretty late before I was in Orlando.
Around 9PM I found the road where my hotel should be located, and then I looked in the mirrors. Damn! A police car was behind med, and they pulled me over.
After saying no and no, when the officer asked me if I had drugs or guns in the vehicle, it became a pleasent experience. The officer was nice and interested in my travelling plans, but he did warn me about the area I was in.
- It can't be a nice hotel, you're living in, he said.
I turned out that the area I was in a where I should spent the night was pretty unsafe. Prostitutes, Strip Clubs and lots of mysterious men were all the way along the street to my hotel, and all the other hotel guests I saw, were black. No offence to them, but I just didn't seem to fit into that area, and I must admit, that when I closed the door and sat in my room, I was actually pretty scared.
I had a bad night, and early next morning I packed my stuff together and drove out of that area. I then found a nice hostel some way out of Orlando, and thats where I'm writing this. Here is safe and calm, and the hostel is located right next to a beautiful lake.
After that experience I will definately make sure not to miss more trains, and I will for sure stay here until I'm totally aware how to get to my next destination. Safe!
