We arrived on about the 12th after a 2 hour ferry journey where I slept most of the way...except then woke up and there was this good movie on called 'Shooter' and when the ferry arrived at Zanzibar no-one wanted to get off-they wanted to see the end!!
We did a Spice Tour in Stone Town (id you know-it is 98% Muslim there?!).
This was really cool and we got to eat lots of fruit and drink spiced tea from the farm afterwards! We learnt that ginger is good for honeymooners and their 'comfortable times', nutmeg is good for shy brides who have to dance in front of lots of men and all things like this!
We also then visited where the slave market used to be and wow that was quite hard-hitting and definitely very scary how it wasnt even that long ago! :S
Anyway, we went to this place called Prison Island the next morning where there were GIANT land tortoises which were pretty cool and we snorkelled in the AMAZING water which was pretty awesome.
Later that day we got a transfer up to the North Beaches.
Ok. WOW.
This was what I thought Zanzibar was like and it is just PURE. PARADISE.
I mean, crystal clear blue seas, white fine sands and the water was even warm.
Our accommodation was amazing-we had air con, AIR CON!! And a sea view! You just went down some steps and there was this restaurant where we had breakfast and stuff (RIGHT on the beach) and there was the beach.
I could have stayed there for ever.
I went diving with the two New Zealanders, two of the aussies and the tour leader. I hadn't been in like 2 years so didnt remember much... But as soon as I got under I remembered and didnt have too many issues with my ears.
It was awesome.
The clarity was great and there was just so much coral and so many fish. And the water was WARM! We only had short wetsuits on! We went down to about 16m and generally had an awesome morning!
I didnt do much else there but they did have an awesome 'international party' which was so much fun! We were all dancing like crazy (everyone else needed a bit of encouragement from me mind you! :P) and I kept going for midnight swims and we generally had an awesome time!
We were all very sad to leave! :(
Back in Dar Es Salaam we had one more night and now the beach didnt seem as amazing as Zanzibar but was still pretty cool!
Tomorrow we were off to Malawi!
