Sorry it has been so long since an update!
Have been mega mega busy this last week and I tried to upload my blog update but computers don't seem to be my friends.. :S
Anyway, where did I finish…oh ye-croc centre!
So this was AWESOME!! On the Tuesday we were collecting eggs from the nests again but this time there was no 'shield' and we were still pretty close! We also had to measure and weigh each egg and collected something like 80ish or something (with like 50 in the first nest alone!). I also got to hold a baby crocodile which was just incredible! He was a little dude actually-probably like 30/40cm and one year old. Still super sharp little teeth though; wouldn't want those biting in your fingers…
After lunch we went to this plant nursery where we bought our trees for planting at the pan, and basically helped out there which was cool. We mainly did a lot of weeding and it was actually fun! We also got to photograph some cool insects and stuff after we were done and we learnt all about this nursery and there's a pretty cool story behind it so was definitely interesting.
Wednesday was an up early day as went for a sunrise shoot (up at 4.30am). It was amazing. Like even not taking photos because it is really hard to capture the amazing light, but just sitting on the beach and watching the light and the waves. It's just so peaceful and I could have sat there all day…
But unfortunately we had to leave as lots to do... I walked back from the beach and then the morning was spent photo editing. We are ALWAYS on a computer us photographers and wow it is slow and tiring. Definitely a bit overwhelming how many photos I have to get through and sort.
The afternoon we had the Enviro Club at the high school and it was really good! These kids are amazing (one of them did ask me if I had any children though!?) and had SUCH a good time just talking to them and trying to teach them about conservation but they probably know more than me. They are incredibly smart kids and just enthusiastic and so inspirational. It was definitely an amazing afternoon and we walked to the pan to collect materials for the compost heap and then we got back and actually got a little demo one started which was good. Will be sad to leave them!
Also went on a GOOD run-definitely an adventure and probably wasn't that much running involved seeing as Sean took us the wrong way and we weren't even on a PATH for ages! :P But it was cool and we finished it off with an AWESOME mango smoothie! That definitely made my day. J
Ended up going to bed REALLY late AGAIN as still doing photo editing and STILL so much to do… Anyway after about 3 hours sleep woke up at 4am on Thursday morning and it was just me and Esther with our guide Theo going on a game drive. We went to the iMfolozi game park again and it was really good actually. The light at the sunrise was really great and the whole day really! We were both pretty tired but had an AWESOME morning; saw some rare birds and 24 rhino! I know-24!!! :o It was pretty cool actually as loads of the animals were all playing in the mud baths as it was incredibly hot.
The rest of the afternoon was of course spent photo editing/sorting and then actually had a yoga lesson which was awesome! The guy comes to the house and WOW I'm seriously not flexible any more (I never was THAT flexible anyway but just worse) but was cool!
Then went for a walk to the sunset at the estuary; we saw some pretty cool stuff actually; mainly birds but WOW the light was amazing and ye-it was beautiful really; an African sunset. J
Spoke to the WHOLE family when I got back and I actually felt really good after as it was SO nice to hear them all and just chat-it was nice, really nice.
So the plan was to photo edit the whole night but ended up doing some throughout the night but not all… It was Christina's last night so we got the wine and the chocolate out and it was pretty hard to work when you were in the same room as everyone who is laughing and having a good time! So it ended up being a REALLY fun night actually-had an awesome time and was so good to just chill at the house with everyone being so relaxed and just happy and chilled. J
Friday. I kept waking up like for the sunrise and then just after that but was too tired. So this morning was our last trip to the Undunu Pan. :S We counted, weeded and watered all the trees that had been planted and there were 62 in total which is awesome! We got that done pretty quick (but still enough time for me to fall into this little pool/puddle thing whilst getting water as well as cut my finger-on grass!). Then were just taking photos really and there were really cool little frogs and dragonflies and ye-hopefully have some reasonable photos as it was our last 'assignment'/trip.
This afternoon was guess what; MORE photo editing!! You don't realize how much work it actually is behind the photo and ye-it's pretty intense! But good to see the finished product, even if a VERY long process-sifting through ALL the photos and ye..Long and slow and often frustrating!
Tonight we are going out again; just for drinks which should be good! J
Tomorrow is literally an ENTIRE day of photo editing and WILL get everything done that I need to hopefully. Sunday will be either kayaking on the estuary or surfing and then leave for Mozambique on Monday… New journey; new place, new people! It's exciting! I'm definitely going to miss everyone here though and I've gotten comfortable and into a routine here you know?!
But the next time I write I will probably be in Mozambique! Although really don't know about internet access there but we will see! Exciting new adventures to come…keep on listening (or reading rather!).
