It has been a while since I have had the chance to update this, so I now have to fit about 6 weeks into one blog entry. Much of those 6 weeks were spent working 10 or 12 hour shifts sitting in my booth selling tickets, I had become very content with my life, although there were some days which felt like they were never going to end and I sat and counted the hours until my next break and/or closing time. However, towards the end of the summer season the park began to empty as much of the international staff had to return home, leaving the rest of us with more shifts, which was great for those that needed the extra cash but it was extremely tiring. As a lot of the staff left, the park began to become quite understaffed which meant I had the chance to work in the Games Department as well, something which I was extremely keen to try, just for a bit of a change really. I only worked on 4 different games; the first was speedball, a baseball game, the customer had to throw 2 balls and after the second ball they had to guess the exact speed of the third pitch, it was definitely easier to guess than it sounds and some people did win prizes. There were many advantages to working on games the first was the uniform was much nicer and much more flattering than my massive orange and yellow shirt and the second advantage was being able to be outside in the sunshine and not stuck inside a booth all day. However, one day when I worked on speedball it poured down all day and I began longing for the booth as I was soaked from head to toe. My favourite game to work on was Frog Bog, it was a pretty simple game, all you had to do was hit a plastic frog into a rotating lily pad; it was a lot of fun to work on as I could listen (and dance) to the music from the Himalaya (a ride), play with the prizes which were soft toys (or plushes according to the Americans!) and it was right opposite the ticket booth I had worked in for a lot of the summer, so it was so nice to be on the other side for once.
Enough about work now, I cannot lie and say all I did in the last 6 weeks was work, so here's a brief summary of all the parties and fun we had after work, and one of the reasons for all those days spent at work wishing my shift would end. There are many highlights from the last chapter of my life at Trimpers, one of my favourite nights there has to be the All American Toga Party, where literally everyone dressed up in bed sheets, drank beer from a keg and danced the night away in our local club, also known as Room 9 or Colombia, it was basically the flat that the Colombians lived in! The parties in the upstairs apartments of Trimpers were always unpredictable, it was guaranteed there would be drinking and you would have a good time, one of these nights a group of the boys decided it would be funny to put everything on my bed since I have issues with things that are dirty, especially feet, being on my bed. When I say everything, I literally mean everything; they put cabinets, suitcases, tables, pans, bits of rubbish and even a toilet plunger, anything they could find on my bed. As much as I was annoyed by this I couldn't help but laugh as it was so funny. I did wash my sheets the next day though! We also had more themed parties in the upstairs apartments including an anything but clothes party, in which I made a dress out of a plastic table cloth and a German themed party for one of the guy's birthday. As well as partying upstairs, we returned to Seacrets nightclub twice and myself, Aimee and Estefania went to Party Block too, which was another club and on the night we went it was ladies night, which meant free entry and cheap drinks, we had a really good night and had so much fun just being away from Trimpers for a bit. On the nights that we didn't party, we spent our time going to the closest fast food restaurants for our late night junk food fix, we began to go more for the social factor of it rather than the fact we were hungry. One night, we finished work early due to a storm, so we thought it would be a clever idea to go across the bridge to Wendy's, we were so excited that we'd finished early that we forgot that there was in fact a massive storm. This has to have been one of the most terrifying experiences of my life as the lightning was so close to us and the thunder was deafening, Aimee was particularly scared and although her reaction was entertaining, we were all secretly just as petrified. Needless to say we learnt our lesson and didn't attempt to do this again! Oh and Wendy's was closed when we got there so it was all for nothing, or the experience as I keep telling myself.
On Monday 3rd September, I worked my final shift, which was very emotional and bittersweet as part of me was so excited for my upcoming travels and so happy to finally be free from the constraints of working a full time job but at the same time I was also extremely sad to be leaving and have to say goodbye to everyone I was leaving behind at Trimpers. I packed my bags a few days before leaving and very early on Tuesday morning myself and 7 of my friends said goodbye to everyone, to Trimpers and to Ocean City and set off for the airport to continue our adventure in California.
