So it has been a while since I have had the chance to update this, whilst I have been working hard and very long hours selling tickets, I have also had some time to experience American Culture and taken full advantage of living in a seaside, holiday town.
In the past few weeks, I had my first experience of the renowned night club in Ocean City called Seacrets. A group of us, who were all old enough, all requested early finishes from work, and by early I mean 11pm! So we all rushed upstairs, quickly got ready and headed out. While it was relatively cheap to enter, the drinks were extortionately over priced so I ended up only buying one of the frozen alcoholic slushies, but one was definitely enough! The club itself was really cool, it's located on the beach and during the day there are tables in the ocean, there is no floor to the club, there is just sand. The music was good and we all danced and enjoyed not partying upstairs in our flats for once.
Shortly afterwards was July 4th, American Independence Day. Although I was working, I didn't actually start work until 5 that day, so I got to enjoy the sunshine and spent the afternoon on the very packed beach. In the evening, I was working but as soon as the fireworks started the park emptied immediately and I was allowed to leave my ticket booth (something which never happens) to go and watch the fireworks and join in the celebrations. That evening after work, we had an American themed fancy dress party.
The only days worth writing about are my days off work, so in this time I have had 2 more days off that are worth mentioning. The first was the day that we hired a pontoon boat to celebrate a friend's birthday. In order to hire the boat, one person had to take ultimate responsibility of driving the boat and would be issued a temporary 10 day boat licence, so of course me being the magnificent boat driver that I am volunteered (shotgunned) to be the primary driver. The others may disagree, but I have to say that I was an excellent boat driver, I didn't crash into anything and I knew exactly how to operate and manoeuvre the boat the whole time! Ok so I may be slightly twisting the truth there but we all returned alive and with no damages to the boat, so I couldn't have been that bad. Whilst we had the boat we also had the chance to go for a quick swim in the sea, although I had some difficulty climbing back onto the boat. It was a really fun day. The following week, we were all filled with adrenaline so decided to go jet skiing at 8am, we hired the jet skis for an hour and myself and Aimee (my roommate) shared one and we all split the driving. It was so much fun, it was shocking how fast 40 miles an hour feels while zooming across the water. We were very lucky and managed to not fall in once! Following our morning adventure we went for an American breakfast of French toast, then continued the day by sunbathing on the beach. It was completed by a staff BBQ that evening once everyone else had finished work.
That's all for now, I will write again very soon to fill you all in on my trip to Washington DC and Toronto!
