Melbourne is such an amazing place. We only spent three days there, but I really wish we had spent so many more.
On the first proper day we had to check out of Base by 10am as we had booked into another place ages ago. Compared to Base it was awful, but it was still an ok place. The kitchen was abit dodgy so we didn't use it. After we checked into our hostel we went for a lovely really big breakfast with Stjohn one of our friends from the trip. I had pancakes, it was sooooo good. After that we decided to go and check out main Melbourne centre. Trying to work out the tram routes was so unbelievably difficult. Eventually we had help from a local who said that most locals don't even understand the system. But we got to where we wanted to go so that was a pretty good achievement. We found out that the city centre has a free tourist tram that goes to all of the major attractions. As it was raining so much we jumped on that for a while, until we got to the museum stop. The museum was actually quite interesting, for a museum!
The next day it was sunny so we went for a walk on the beach in St. Kilda and wondered down the pier - it was so windy. After that I dragged Rich to the craft market that was at the top of the hill, we bought a couple of really nice pictures. In the evening we went up the tower in the city centre to watch the sunset and take lots and lots of photos.
Our last day in Melbourne/St. Kilda was mostly spent shopping; I wanted to buy a jumper as it was just a bit to cold without one. Me and Rich ended up with a couple of Elmo t-shirts which are AWESOME!! Heehee. In the evening we met up with Stjohn and went to Neighbours night, it was so good. We got very drunk with some of the cast of Neighbours. It was quite funny because we didn't really know any of the other cast members except Dr Karl Kennedy!!! He is a LEGEND! Got lots of photos with him. It was such a good night, except for the fact that we had to be outside Base hostel ready to be picked up for our Oz experience to Sydney at 6.30am. It hurt.
